Raw format options, auto blk level default
«

Hi,
I noticed that when I use the restore defaults button, it doesn't give me an auto blk level default. Should it?
Also, are the default settings pretty much generic, or does every camera need a bit of fine tuning?
Thanks,
CH

Possibly. The 2 things I have fine tuned is the sharpening (reduced radius) and Noise reduction (increased a little).
You need to check a number of images with different subjects and lighting conditions to see if anything needs changing. If they do, a little experimentation will be required. Also, don't forget to save the settings for the particular camera.

That makes sense. It just strikes me as odd that hitting the default button leaves the auto blk level however it was, checked or not checked. Do people tend to leave it on or off?

Re. Black level. I would think most users do use auto black level, I do.
Have fun using QU Raw Refine - it's an unusual interface, drawing rectangles etc. but, I think, better than a load of sliders with strange names.
ODR takes a bit of practice but there's a helpful teaching video here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y37FmX0u3yg&feature=youtu.be
. Set to 1080p HD. You can access it from QU Refine, click the red V.

I've been using raw refine a lot. With my old Nikon D200 I couldn't really do better than the in-camera jpegs, at least most of the time. Sort of thought raw was a waste of time. With my new Z6, I'm using raw almost exclusively. I like the Qimage approach much better than most others and some of my results are, IIDSSM, rather good. I've started doing more printing on my PRO-100 too.
