Hi Guys

Is there anyway to get a Canon Lide80 to work with Windows7 64bit

Other than "Virtual Box" that is as I couldn't get it to work.

Vuescan 64it version independent scanning software will probably do it. I got a Canon 8400F to be fully functional with it. I had been a user of Vuescan for several years. See th eweb site here and check the supported scanner list.

If you do not have a 64 bit Canon driver, it does not matter, Vuescan will do it.

I do have Vuescan 64bit and that dosent see the scanner as there are no 64 bit drivers loaded.

I also have Vuescan for 64 bit Windows and a Canon LIDE scanner, and it works fine.
The list does include your scanner, so I don't see a problem.
You have to download the 64 bit  version of VS.

I had a similar problem with my scanner when connected via. firewire. I eventually got it sorted out by using the USB connection. You can get support from Ed Hamrick the author of ViewScan via an e-mail message. Go to the hamrick.com website for info on how to contact him.

Just some comments that may help.
When Vuescan is installed, it asks if you have an older scanner without a driver. Did you click the correct button to say you don't have a driver?
When the scanner is switched on, can you see it in the Device Manager list?
I find it is better to switch on the scanner before opening Vuescan, start-up is smoother.

The scanner is shown in device manager but with the little yellow icon showing no drivers installed.

I've attached some screen shots from a friend who has old scanners with the Hamrick drivers. Click to enlarge.
You could try right clicking on the Device Manager item and update driver manually by browsing to the Vuescan folder. Alternatively re-install  Vuescan, perhaps try that with the scanner switched on.

I just checked the vuescan directory and there are no drivers in there, I tried installing vuescan with the scanner on and off and it makes no difference, oddly enough it is now no longer giving the no drivers found do you want to intall anyway option.

H Guys

Just heared back from Ed and its not good news, he says the only way to get it to work is to use Virtual PC Windows XP emulation mode.  The trouble with that is I use Windows Home and that dosent come with Virtual PC Windows XP emulation mode.  I would have to up-grade to windows professional and at £120 thats a no brainer, I might as well dump the Lide80 and get a Lide90 at about £60 as that does come with windows 7 support. Mind you because of there lack of support for the 80 and windows 7 I think I will dump Canon all together and get something else.

All sorted now and the Lide80 is back working with windows 7

How did I do it

easy peasy

Just dumped 64bit and went back to 32bit

On a plus side I am sure the PC is running faster as well.

Glad you have it working.
Just curious!
Wouldn't it have been less expensive to buy an LIDE scanner (less than 100) rather than spend for 64 bit W7 and not use it?
