Title: Program to rename directories desired
Post by: Uncle Don on October 30, 2009, 07:07:07 AM
I wish someone would write a program that would look at the dates of file creation , and rename the directory that those files are in.

Example

Before the sub directories are named this:

Mexico vacation
pictures of Mom
cats playing
around town

After the software runs, the names of the sub directories:

20090507 - 20090511 Mexico vacation
20070412 - 20070413 pictures of Mom
20080211 - 20080211 cats playing
20090312 - 20090615 around town

My present system is a mess, and something like this would really help me organize it.

Thanks for your thoughts

Uncle Don,
Flash Pipe already can do this easily.
Go to Settings and turn on Automatically create sub folders based on date, and then put a dot in RANGE,
Flashpipe will name your folders by the dates of the earliest shot to the latest and then all you add is the location as you noted.
If you click after the last number of the folder name, you get a blinking cursor which allows typing.
See the attached screen snap that shows I took pictures at the bay bridge 0n 10-21 and some more on 10-30, and then BAY BRIDGE

Should do it for you.

Thanks, that helps me greatly.

Sadly though, flash pipe does not download files in subdirectories.

Baybridge
      music

It downloads the range of Baybridge pictures, but not files in Baybridge subdirectories.  My music files were not downloaded.

I am probably missing something.  I do have the other option selected.

For music files and *all* other files, you set the type from photo to OTHER.
In settings, you can even name the subfolder if you want OTHER in a subfolder.
See screen snap!

Thanks Uncle Fred!

Now I have a feature request.

Instead of typing in Baybridge, I wish Flash Pipe would just add the original folder's filename automatically.  Sort of an argument like {o} added behind the date range.

I sure am glad that Flashpipe is not a toilet paper dispenser.
