Title: Qimage Ultimate RAW Processing Guide
Post by: vdr on August 14, 2014, 10:13:36 PM
Where may I find the referenced subject guide that I tried to download using the supplied reference:
admin:
For reference, here is the raw processing guide developed by Terry:

http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage/Qimage%20RAW%20-%20A%20Guide%20R6.pdf

For you Studio raw aficionados. ;)
Mike

I accessed the Link but there was no PDF file there for download.  There was mostly just "good talk" regarding Qimage.
I already have Qimage Ultimate (after over 10 years of using previous issues)  and I simply want to check the provided RAW processing for my Canon Cameras which of course are CR2 files to determine if it may be useful (or preferred) from what I currently use.

A working link would be appreciated.  I want the actual details and not just the "salesmanship" type talks that are so common on the internet sites.

Thanks for any Help.
Vernon....

It's 4 years since I made that guide and QU has moved on so much since then it would be confusing. I expect Mike has decided not make it available for that reason.
Up-to-date information is now provided by the Learning Videos here:
http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage-u/learn.htm (http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage-u/learn.htm)
There is a section on raw processing.

Thanks for the Video link.  Is there any current PDF type user guide regarding my inquiry.  Video's are probably easier to prepare but (for me) are not nearly as versatile and useful as PDF type user guide.

Thanks,  Vernon....

No there isn't.
I would say that using raw refine in QU is not difficult as most of the processing is looked after by QU automatically and there the few adjustment sliders are optional in there use. Any detail queries would soon be answered here on the forum.

Thanks Terry.  I was hoping the RAW (CR2 in my case) provided perhaps more (or different) options for making more of any needed adjustments as a part of RAW processing but my brief test indicates that the normal image processing details are applicable such as would be  used with such images as TIF.  It is good for those that want to be able to open their RAW images for their specific camera and make basic adjustments -- then be able to print from the RAW file.

I will continue using my RAW software and work flow as in the past which has served me well and continue using Qimage for Photo Printing plus some other functions for which it has always done an excellent job.
My Regards,  Vernon....

QU can do more than "basic adjustments".
Do not forget that QU has an image editor too so in addition to the basic raw processing, the editor can be used to do more sophisticated adjustments. In particular the Deep Focus and Tone Targeted Sharpening features are very advanced - just think of the advantages of sharpening with no halos and artefacts! All the usual features of an editor are there, some are missing like perspective correction, but for me, that is an exception where I would go to an external editor with a tiff made in QU.
We'd be interested to know what other adjustments you may want to do?

Vernon,
This summarises the "philosophy behind what QU does wrt to raw images.
