The problem is in what you did to the collage in CS3.
Qimage will not change the page color unless you activate it.

Fred,
        I think I found the source of the problem.I had the Rendering Intent set to Absolute Colorimetric and that gave me the light blue background. By changing it to Perceptual, the blue background turned to white.

Aaah, there we go.... effectively, a "bad" profile.
