Hi,

It's been a while since I've posted here. I've been a happy Qimage user for years, and a happy Epson Photo Stylus R800 user for about as long. I love that printer so much that when my first one died, I bought a refurbished replacement from Epson--that was probably a year or two ago. Now that one is showing signs of frailty, and I am starting to think about what's next. I wish I could use my existing store of cartridges, but I realize that only another obsolete model (the R1800, I think) uses the same ones. So I realize I have to give that up.

I don't need 13" width, particularly, but it's okay if that's a feature, and I don't need wireless. I do want a printer that prints great quality photos as well as decent text--it's my one printer. I don't need fax/scanning capabilities. I am open to Canon printers, but not HP, for complicated reasons I don't want to go into here.

I see that Mike has the R1900. Thoughts about that? Others?

I am not a professional; I'd like to stay under $450 if possible..........

Thanks!

Liz

I got the R1900 last Christmas and all is fine, I fitted it with a CIS to cut down ink costs.  I have not managed to print a good B&W yet but that is not a problem as I am not good at B&W Smiley

I don't know what the R1900 it is like for text, expensive I would think, I use a laser - much cheaper.

Since you like the R800, perhaps you can keep it going.

Join the Yahoo Epson Printers group at: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/EPSON_Printers/

and post a description of your R800 problems. It is quite likely that they can help keep it working.

Thanks. I will do that, but I think I know the steps: I have cleaned the heads multiple times, and still get faint banding, and the feed is becoming slightly erratic. There is a local Epson printer repair place (Mardek--they are great), and I can try them, too, but with printer #1 the cost of replacing the parts was about as high as the cost of a new printer...
