Title: Epson P800 putting black ink along edge of print
Post by: jeffjessee on April 07, 2019, 10:02:25 PM
Had a problem. My P800 printed an 8x10 image landscape, ie, as if it thought the letter sized paper was put in 11 inch side first, so only part of the image proited on the paper (which was put in portrait), and the rest into the guts. THIS even though all the setting I could find were set to Portrait. Finially fixed this problem by rebooting everything and resetting everything, but then there is another problem, obviously caused by the printer printing off the paper.

On every print after the above problem, there is some black smeared along one long edge of the 8 1/2 by 11 paper. It only goes up about 3/4 of an inch, and is always black. This is on the image, not on the back of the sheet. I first thought it was some extra ink that had gotten into the printer from the above problem, so I left it for a day to dry, and tried again. It's still there, so evidently, it is coming from the fresh ink. I don't see how to clean the print head. Any ideas?

THanks,
Jeff Jessee

I have done this (along with just about every other stupid thing) and I really think that this is the result of your original problem.  I think you have an ink deposit - and probably not just black - that is so thick that it wont just dry up so fast.  Not sure how accessible the underside of the carriage is around the edge where it would meet the frame but you might want to try fishing around in there with some toothpicks and/or a q-tip that doesn't have any loose fibers.
