I am having extreme problems with building a printer profile. I now have a Color Munki Display which I used and the best I can tell looks good and pictures print well using Epson profiles, OEM ink and R1900. I am attaching two captures of many profiles attempts which were similar. I am hoping that someone has a hint as to what is wrong as I have followed all instructions using the setup in QU and setup for Vuescan. Even to a lay person the dynamic range is certainly low on both.  The first is using Printer Target - PP and the second is Printer Target - Bright. When I first purchased Profile Prism, more than a couple of years, I had reasonable success with it, now this which I don't understand.

Don,
Usually, when the readings are so far out of whack as you show in your snaps, it indicates that you might not have got the angle corners locked onto the correct places.
Most of the time, people forget to go below the gray scale.

I also question why you are using the BRIGHT target. If I remember correctly, that was special for some older Epson's like a 1270 and a 1280 that had special needs.
If you are using Vuescan, (you didn't mention which scanner), try to scan in RAW mode and save as a TIF.

Maybe something will jog the memory???

I have tried so many variations the corners couldn't be the problem as I am very careful in the placement. What do you mean go below the gray scale? Not where the corner marks are placed? Used the BRIGHT in desperation thinking there would be enough change to see the problem. My scanner is the Epson V700. Followed all instructions I could find including using RAW mode in Vuescan. Thanks for the help. (Added the attachment)

Fred, going below the gray scale apparently was the problem with the profile, however, using that profile to print produced a purplish tint with green being predominate. Got similiar prints with the other profiles produced. (Printer nozzles have been checked) Attaching a profile to show values produced. Thanks again!

In your first attached screenshot, the corner markers on the IT8 were obviously placed in the wrong spot.  The IT8 leads you to place the corners above the gray scale at the bottom because that's where they place their markers... but PP needs to crop the entire IT8 to be able to correct for distortions so you place the bottom markers below the grayscale as instructed in the manual.  Not having them below the grayscale is why the tone reproduction curves look like an EKG on your first post... all over the place.  In that last one above though, looks like you got everything right.  The tone reprod. curves look good and your report on dynamic range, etc. looks good too.  So how did the profile on that last one look?  My guess is, now with everything lined up, it worked pretty good since your report looks good.

Thanks for the explanation, Mike. I must have known that at one time but am entering my senior years (78) I had to review the instructions and must have skimmed over that part on the gray scales. I did print with the latest profile and they were definitely acceptable. Many thanks to you and Fred for the assistance.
