I am ready to print the target in photoshop cs5 however I have a question about print settings that I cannot find an answer to in the help files.  I have set my printer up as per instructions but in photoshop I have entered "photoshop manages colors"  under color handling but then photoshop asks me to select a profile.  Which one should I select when printing the target?  rgb? my original printer profile?  adobe rgb? Photoshop cs has no option for no profile.  I'm stumped.  Please help.

  Sad
Do you have Qimage? If so there's a special saved "Job" for printing targets, there's none of those Adobe hoops to jump through to do it!  Shocked
If you don't have Qimage, download the Qimage Ultimate demo and use it to print the targets.
We can more easily help you with that.  Wink

Some points to remember when printing targets;

1. The target file does not have any profile embedded or associated with it therefore the printing application must not be allowed assign or embed a ("working space") profile to it.
2. Targets are printed with colour management "OFF" in the printing application.
3. The driver is normally set with CM on and no colour adjustment by the driver; the terms may vary with printer type.
4. The correct paper type and print quality (usually the "best") must be set in the driver.
5. When printing with the profile, exactly the same driver settings must be used.

All the above is easy and visible when Qimage is used to print  - anything.

Okay, thanks for the feedback.  I will follow through and try to create a profile with photoshop today.  If it does not work out it looks like Qimage will have to be my next step.  Either way I will post a followup in case someone else is trying to get a profile via photoshop.

I have to say, Qimage is the best first step for any quality printing. I assume you do not have it but it is a bargain compared to CS5.

Thanks Terry.  I believe i found a solution (won't know til i actually make a profile).  In photoshop cs5 they have removed the "print with no color management".  What they now provide is a utility to let you print out targets.  Located here with an explanation..............

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/834/cpsid_83497.html

Hope this helps others.

Either way, now that i have profile prism i will likely get qimage as well.

As John McEnroe the tennis player used to say when an umpire's decision went against him "I can't believe it!"
I suppose they'll eventually put that right in a new edition and make you pay for their stupid omission.

Terry,
Am I understanding this correctly?

Run the Utility

Double-click the Adobe Color Printer Utility to open the application.
Select a TIFF image to open. This utility only works on TIFF files.
Choose File > Page Setup. Select your paper size and orientation.

Only on TiFF?

Sorry I am late getting on here.
I assume the problem is that there seems to be no way to turn off color management in CS5.

I am looking around, and it seems as though you can do it, but I'm not sure.

See my attached snaps.  I set the print setup to Let Printer manage color. That grays out the profile  box, and assuming that renders it out of the workflow, that should be equivalent to saying OFF in the profile box in Qimage?
The next snap shows the actual driver set to NO COLOR MANAGEMENT.

Is there something that by-passes these instructions? (Never thought I would see the day that I defend PS? :-))

Me either, but I had to take a look, and went to my rich friend's house to see.

I would think so otherwise Adobe would not have produced a patch.  Wink
I have instructions for setting previous PS from a custom profile company, the dialogues give some clues.
Your screen shot shows the document with adobeRGB set; my instructions say "untagged RGB" and Print space "same as source" - as well as "no colour management".
Terry
PS. attached a screen shot of the custom profile instructions.

I didn't want to overload the attachments, so here are the last two that I got last evening.
Maybe this matches your instructions?>

Notice OFF OFF OFF ! ??
I am all out of ideas.
