1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: DFS Sharpening on: June 02, 2020, 08:40:34 AM
Hi Fred,
Trumps again...that video is exactly what I was searching for. I had a quick glance at it this morning and it looks fine.

In the video you intrigue me with the settings you choose i.e. a radius of 3 with a strength of 250%. I would have thought that they would be far too strong but your results were spot on. Can you shed a little more light on point for me?

Stay safe.

Regards
Bill
2  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / DFS Sharpening on: June 01, 2020, 07:51:38 PM
I have been experimenting with DFS sharpening of late, and I am pleased with the outcome.

In the main, I have applied my tried and trusted usm settings, pushing them to the limit and then switching over to DFS and delighted to see my halos disappear.
I have some remaining questions:-
1.   Would anybody like to share their DFS settings with me with regard to Portraits, images with fine detail, landscape and B&W.
2.   To round off my tour of DFS, I would like to learn how to apply selective sharpening. Is there a video that I can learn from or maybe a document explaining as to how it is done?

All contributions are welcome.

Bill

Hi Fred,
thanks for the additional info. When I viewed your 2014 video on borders or was is mats, I noticed how easy you could change the background colour. I think this is a great little feature and its so easy to do...when you know how!!!

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I appreciate them. I plan shortly to explore post processing in Qimage Ultimate and no doubt I will have lots of queries for you.

Keep safe, keep your distance and wash your hand.

Forget it. I found it.
Thanks

Sorry, Mike, I must be blind, I just can't see it. Please, can you sent me a screen print, and point it out to me.

Sorry for causing you so much bother.
Thanks
Bill

Thanks for the video. I feel more comfortable with borders or should I say Photo mats now.

I have one final issue and I hope you can resolve it for me. My wish is to place an image with borders on a page with a color other than white. Is it possibe?

Thanks, Mike, for clarification. In fact, how this came to my attention, was because I was following your 2014 tutorial on uneven borders which I was trying to replicate but couldn’t.

Question: Is there an updated video tutorial on uneven borders or do I do make an uneven border in the current version as I find that this feature could be useful to me in the future.

Many Thanks for your response.

On the image below I have  a screenshot showing three thumbnails, a JPG, a Tiff and a Raw.  And each thumb has only two icons?

Unfortunately, I have gone astray along the way

The missing icon is the one before the template (+) Icon. It appears to be a print properties icon and is not shown in your image nor does it appear on my computer

Bear in mind that the image I sent you is a screen print from your tutorial on uneven borders. Take a peep at that tutorial and you will see what I am talking about.

Here with a screen print of what I see on your tutorial on uneven borders.

I was following the tutorial on uneven Border. I couldn't quite replicate what was being done i.e. creating a background template until I noticed your Thumbs had 3 icons; Working left to right Info, print properties and +.  I am missing the properties' icon. FYI I have the latest upgrade V2020.119 installed.
Any ideas as how I can remedy this issue.
Thanks

After that explanation I don't feel so bad after all.  In my day, we didn't have spell checkers, just spelling  checks  and if you didn't get it right, your reward was a clip across the ear so you would wouldn't forget it again in a hurry.

Joking aside, thanks for putting me right.

A nice picture though and even nicer mats to direct the viewers interest onto the subject… I give you ten out of ten.

May I ask a dumb question! What exactly is a black matte border. I don't understand what is meant here.

Fred,

Got it at last. This morning, I went back again to my compute, right clicked the Thumb and found the 'Section called 'File Operations' blanked out!! I sat back, scratched my head and would you believe, I had A Eureka moment. I realized that the image was also displayed in live view, so I switched it off. When I went back and right clicked the thumb again, I gained access to File operation. So, I'm good to go now.

 Thanks, Fred, for your patience.

Regards
Bill
