Challenge #16

So someone told you that you need a special paper to make show-quality prints.
They recommended sheets of metallic- Luster- Canvas with a glossy finish manufactured by a company purported to make
all the paper for the National Geographic print contest winners.

So you take the plunge! You order the starter Pack; 5 sheets of 13 x 19 inch paper at the introductory price of only
12 dollars  a sheet.

You click the BUY button and wait for delivery.
10 working days later the package arrives.
The invoice! Shipping? I didn't see shipping!
There's a tracking route slip on the package which shows that your paper went down the Red River, past the town of
Ilford, and delivered on the back of Hanna's Mule.

Plus shipping; you now have paper that costs 2 gazillion dollars a sheet.!!

You cannot afford to make any mistakes.
How will you know if the detail of any difficult area will be sharp and clear or soft?
What tool in Qimage Ultimate gives you the answer in under 5 minutes?

If you answered THE TEST STRIP tool, you win a cigar. Since there's no smoking allowed, you can just suck your
thumb.
For those grasshoppers who didn't answer correctly, you are still have to try to snatch the pebble from the palm of
the hand of your teacher.

So how does this TEST STRIP help me?
You place your image into the queue  I set my page to 13 x 19.  (Obviously, for those who have roll paper or very large sheets for large prints, this tool becomes more important.)
See screen snap #067. Take note that my my print will start with 188 ppi. That's a pretty good number and Qimage will make a Very Good Print.
But am I sure? Remember how expensive those sheets of paper are.

Let's go into the page editor. Make sure you select the CROPPING TAB.
See screen snap #068
Click the tool icon below the image. (The left icon of the three, looks like a C clamp).
Since I have some spare sheets of 4 x 6 paper that I will use for my test prints, I click that tool icon enough times to make the image small enough to fit on a 4 x 6 paper.
Look above the bird's head; 4.92 x 3.28. OK but there's one more step. Use your mouse and drag the image in the small box to the area you want to test.
In my case, the bird's white feathers on the head.
Almost done!
Click DONE which takes us back to the main screen. See snap #070  showing  a  4.92 x 3.28 print sitting on the 13 x 19 sheet.
All we do now is click on the print page setup and change paper size to 4 x 6. Slip a sheet into the printer, and we get a print of the area we worried about at the EXACT SAME PPI AS THE FINAL PRINT

See 071.
That was the object! To see ON PAPER exactly how the final will look.
Cropping will not work because you will be changing the ppi.

So the challenge.
TRY IT!
Find a wedding dress image; a face in the shadows so you can check for noise to see if you need to address that.
Find a shot of a flower or a dress with sequins ,,, try the tool and show and tell some results!

Have fun!
Fred
