The Auto Rename box contains four pre-sets. How do I customise these, please? They don't retain a custom setting used in a renaming operation and when I alter the setting in Edit/Preferences, the new settings are ignored

Referring to?
Flash card copy move; Ultimate or Studio?  Perhaps Flashpipe?
Are you referring to Right Click on thumbs, and using Rename Images?

Ultimate. Right click on a thumbnail and choose Auto Rename Images. You see the sets listed there

Anthony,
I tried everything I could think of to repeat what you see.
I used EDIT Preferences Auto Rename as well as the Right click on one or multiple selected thumbs and using Auto Rename, I cannot get it to fail ever.
I used the preset naming conventions, and even added one and removed one manually to see if that was retained after closing QU and reopening.
I could not get anything to go wrong.

Is there any other item like print size, driver settings, profile changes, or even a folder change that is not saved?
If so, that is a simple fix.

Gosh, this is strange. This is what I'm doing:
Edit / Preferences / Auto Rename options; click on Set 1, ?y-?m-?d ?h.?n.?s is displayed
Alter settings to ?y-?m-?d
Click OK to save the new settings
Go to a photo, right click, Auto Rename, click on Set 1 and get ?y-?m-?d ?h.?n.?s again

So what you're saying is that it *is* possible to adjust Set 1, Set 2 etc to suit? Where do you recommend I look to see why the settings are not retained in my case?

Anthony,
Absolutely no problem here.
I did ask earlier; if there are any other parameters like print size or the change in folders when you close Qimage that does not save?
In other words, if you change folders and then close Qimage and reopen, which folder opens? Is the one that was open earlier, or the one you changed to as you closed Qimage?

Anthony,
I missed the importance of this line.
When you go back to QU and recheck the settings, if you click on the SET 1, naturally it will go back to SET 1. I put in my own preferences as shown in the screen snap, and when I reopen, they are there. Why reclick SET 1???

I want it to go back to Set 1 but I want it to go back to *my* Set 1, not Mike's. In other words, can I configure the four Sets as I would like them to be? I don't want to keep having to change the renaming format; I would prefer to store my various preferences within the Sets

Aah!
The answer is no!  Those are presets; 4 logical and somewhat probable settings that people might want to use.
If you customize your settings manually, that will stay for use again and again, but only until you replace what you had typed in with something else; either a click on a preset, or typing something different.

Let's see what Mike says later on.
He might be able to concoct a fix for what you want.
