Title: Can't print size I want to
Post by: Gary on December 28, 2019, 11:38:14 AM
I have just bought the new version of Qimage Ultimate and having trouble printing an image the size I want. When i click on a print and then on a paper size say 8 x 12 (A4) it comes up on the print image as a 4x6 if i click on the auto cropping it fills the page but on the top left side of the image it says 2x1 and also the queue on the top right of the page is telling me that if i print on A4 paper I will need 2 sheets how can i put a 8x12 image on an A4 paper without using 2 sheets. If I then click on the 8x10 page size the image shows at 4x6 what am i doing wrong.

Hi Gary,
I would appreciate knowing which printer you use. It makes a difference to the numbers.
In the meantime, I'll use a Canon Pro 100 to sample.
If I tell the driver that I have A4 paper ready to use, Qimage will tell me the exact printable area that the printer will allow to printed.
In the case of the A4 paper, it says (top of the screen) 11.377 x 8.00.
If you insist on 12.0 inches, you image says you need 2 sheets.

Part two.
Print size is totally different from Page size. You select your print size from the PRINTS TAB, Picking a size and then clicking on a Plus sign on a thumbnail.
Now you can see why asking for a 12 x 9i;;l not fit.
You can click on Fit To Page and get the largest print possible on A4.  Even borderless printing will not make a 12.0
Hope this helps a bit
Fred

Thanks for replying Fred what i don't understand is when i select Fit to Page it shows that i can only put a 4x6 on it which can not be right i would of thought a 12x8 would go on a A4 sheet as it shows the print size 11.376 x8 or am i missing something

I forgot to mention that i have 3 canon printers 10s 100s and the 1000

When i look at some of the video's when a print is to big for the paper size they click on the crop icon to crop the image to the paper size but i have tried this also still wont fit surly there must be way of fitting a size A4 paper with a print

Let's say you have an A4 paper and a 4 x 6 print in the middle of the paper/  OK?
You wish to change size of the print. From 4 x 6 to 8 x 10
You must SELECT that 4 x 6 by clicking on it. Now you go to the prints tab and select a new size.
The default for a print size out of the box is 4 x 6.  We can change the default later on.
Even the crop on or off must be selected first.
Think of it this way... I may have 6 different images in the queue. I may want 3- 4 x 6 and 2 8 x 10s, and one 11 x 14.
Before I choose a size for a print or group of prints, I have to tell Qimag which prints gets what size.
Some may benefit from a crop and some not.

Just to correct terminology....  The crop on or off will never be too big for the paper, only losing a little of the image off the sides to fill out the requested size (crop off. 5.90 x 4.0) Crop on requesting a full 4.0 x 6.0 now fills out the 4 x 6

Fred already answered above but let's put this in steps, assuming you just opened QU and you want to make a print as large as possible on the page:

(1) On the "Printers and Settings" tab, verify that you have the correct paper type and size selected.
(2) Click the "Properties" button on that same tab to open the driver properties and select borderless in the driver if you want the minimum margins the printer can handle.
(3) Click on a thumbnail to select it.
(4) On the "Prints" tab, make sure the crop button (scissors icon) under the sizes is ON and then click on "Fit to Page" in the size list.

That will give you a print (of the selected thumbnail) as large as the printer can physically print on your page.  Once you've done the above once, QU will remember those settings: the next time you open QU, you only need to select thumbnail(s) and click the "Fit to Page" size in the size list.
