Convert from Camera profile

I thought I was OK with profiles then I went to try something. I have the profile for my camera and "Sony DSLR A700.icm" on the bottom line under the thumbnails when I put the cursor over a RAW image as one would expect. So, I adjusted a RAW image and saved it as a JPG version. The bottom line of the thumbnail page then reads "Sony DSLR A700-Qimage-v3.icm" for that image. I did not select a conversion at the time. I then thought I would change its profile to sRGB (for screen viewing) so I went to convert - but I can't find the Sony A700 profile on the list of profiles. Checking the Qimage programme folder, the Sony Profile is on its own in the Qimage Profiles folder. An assortment of other profiles is in the Qimage folder but not within a subfolder. So, what profile do I select in the "From" box for conversion to sRGB?

You do not need to enter profile, just "<input>" (no inverted commas).
That is in the Help, place cursor in field and click F1.

How you did that "adjust and save" because there is no feature in the raw refine screen to do that?
I just want to make sure you are using QU in the best way.
Once you refined a raw images and, perhaps, added a filter, the Conversion can both convert the profile and the file type at the same time. For making sRGB jpegs, it's often easier to use the e-mail/web copies feature. This is covered in the "Emailing and Downsizing Photos" learning video. NB. you don't have to actually "downsize with this" but it's a neat way of converting to jpeg and sRGB.

Thanks Terry. I should have known Mike would have made things easy! I should also have tried the F1 trick - one of the many things I re-learned from the videos.

I adjusted the RAW images from refine raw and from the image editing screen - had a play with the selective colour while I was at it. I appreciate I could have converted when I had completed the edit. I had thought about using the email approach and it made me think, if Qimage can do it by itself using that technique (and accounts for profile for printing), surely there is a similarly simple way without going through email. I now know there is.

QU is a colour management aware application but you do have to "tell it" what you want.

The create e-mail/web copies is a very flexible option, specifically designed for when sRGB is required, but that is optional.
There is the option to not to send an e-mail and select a folder of your choice. I think that is covered in the video; perhaps Fred would remind us of that.
OR ... use the Convert process which is totally flexible

But to help, see attached screen shot where I've placed images in the queue, right clicked on the preview and selected E-mail/web copies.
Note:
- The Send via e-mail is not ticked.
- The convert to sRGB is ticked
- The size 800x800 ensures the longest side of the image is always 800 pixels
You could enter the original image pixel size here if you did not want to down-size but it's probably easier to use Convert in such cases
- I have typed in a new folder ~\Web 800 to receive the new copies.

Except for resolution & folder changes, I rarely change the other settings
Really, this is a simple process, just try it in some high-end editors!!! Roll Eyes

What I meant was that you didn't have to insert the profile manually, Qimage finds it from the file and proceeds accordingly.

I use the email option quite a bit and didn't mean to imply it was clumsy. It's quite the reverse and I agree, the one or two other programmes in which I have tried this make heavy weather of the process.
