Title: Designing on one PC and printing on another
Post by: tonygamble on March 30, 2018, 02:01:21 PM
I have changed my workflow so I can design the pages I want to print on my desk machine and I only need to use my studio machine when I want access to my Epson 3880.

I now have two matching PCs. The programs are stored on Drive C of each machine. Drive C also contains the Program Data folders. My machine are configured to hold the User folders on Drive D.

All my images are held on an external HDD which I will move from my desk to my studio depending on which machine I am using.

Can you kind souls remind me where Qimage is going to store the pages when I 'save' them?

I am guessing it is in C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage\Save

Is there anything else I might need from within User?

Many thanks.

Tony

Yes, that is correct.
I assume you are saving as "Sessions". They are .SES files. You can open them with Notepad. I don't think "Jobs" would work because that involves saving printer data which is (presumably) not installed on the "desk" PC and a Job has multiple saved files with different extensions which would make copying to the other PC tricky.

Your portable HDD must have the same drive letter on both machines so the image files paths match. Open a .SES file and you'll see all the image file paths.

Thanks Terry,

Yes I will use Sessions. I am used to it as when I was simply working on one PC I often saved some page layouts as Sessions so that I had a falll back if further tweaking messed up what I had done so far.

I'll need to make sure that portable HDD keeps the same drive letter. Good point.

Have a great Easter. Rubbish weather here in SW6.

You can change the 'save' folder with the folder icon to the right of the address:

Thanks Brian,

I had not realised.

Doing what I plan to do would you move it to somewhere else?

I realise it is a long way down the folder stack where it is.

I think I would keep them on the portable disc. You don't need to worry about it having a different drive letter as you can set the 'open' folder in the same way

Good idea Brian,

But, as Terry mentioned, some of the other folders relate to printer drivers etc so it is only the Save that goes to the portable.

I do print on my desk machine Canon cheapo with Qimage at odd times. And the studio machine drives the Epson 3880.

If you install the 3880 on your desk PC you should be able be able to save 'Jobs' as well as 'Sessions'. The Job files only reference the printer, not the individual driver files. You would need the same ICC profiles on both machines.

Hi Guys,
Just wondering if the 3880 can be used in wireless mode.
If so, you can have both computers print to it.

Brian.

I see what you mean but I think a Session will hold enough info.

Fred.

Wifi stands no change. The two PCs are much to far apart. But thanks for the idea.

Posting simply to confirm that Session works.

It did not initially as my drive acquired a different letter on the other machine - but once I got it matched it found all the files and patterns.

Great system.
