Hello.

How do i apply different filters to serval copies of one picture in the print queue?

When im trying to change a filter parameter ( right click/custom filter) to lets say picture-1,
it always changes the parameters on the other ones too.

When using the double-klick method and selecting "apply the filter to the current image" it also affects every copy!?

Thank you!

Rico

Hi Rico,
Qimage will only apply the filter to multiple images if you have multiple images selected in teh queue.
I can do a B&W filter on image 1, and Negative filter on image 2 in the queue.
See attached.
Just right click and click select image, or deselect all and then select image.

This can only happen if you have the same image in the queue multiple times, or you intentionally save the filter with a dot in APPLY to ALL.

OK Essy to fix.
Select the thumb of the image you want multiples.
Right Click... select RENAME.
Swipe the filename and right click and do "COPY"

Now back to the thumbnail and right click and this time select COPY.IMAGE
Replace whatever shows in the filename box that opens, with a paste of what you copied from RENAME.

Last step. add an a or a number into the pasted filename so it is different.

See screen snaps.

Also you can sit through this video if you prefer videos. Second half covers what you want to do.
It is from  Challenge #46 http://youtu.be/mLFJz1_H8dg

Thank you so much. Will check the video.

So applying multiple filters can't be done at non destructive level, only by doing hardcopys of the files?

I have no idea what you mean.
QU never touches the original ime.
All you are doing is making multiple copies of the original by changing the file name slightly, giving you in effect, different images.
You are then free to apply whatever you want as if they were different images, and compare results.
Everything is done by applied filters. The actual image files are never changed.
Delete one filter or all, you are back to your original.

By multiple filters??? You can apply as many filters to any one image as you like!!

I thought it would be straight forward to just have the one original image in the folder and all different filter-actions will refer to it.

I want to testprint  5 to 10 tiny versions of a picture with different settings (color, levels). Is this possible in QI without copying files on the HDD?

And another question. How can i print these testprints with different interpolation sharpening (fusion) applied in one go?

In order to see and compare different settings, you will obviously have to have a set of different images.
You can also apply the sharpening you want  and then CREATE a JPG.  Name the jpg: DFS 3-159 to indicate the sharpening.
Now change the setting in the editor to 2-200, Create a JPG and rename that to 2-200.
Actually, if you use create email size copies, it will numerically name them for you
You then can use the Best Shot Selector, the Image Comparator, or even the Slide show feature and let it roll.

You could make screen grabs/snaps of the image as you make changes, but that is pretty clunky.

I don't understand why are you now suggest to save jpgs ( compression artifacts and stuff) and/or doing screen grabs/snaps to compare different interpolation-sharping settings on the paper at the highest quality output possible?!

And i want to test different interpolation-sharpening settings not the editor-sharpening.

Please let my try to make my point more clear. I know my english isn't perfect.

My question was/is if the page editor in QI is able to work with ghost copys in a non-destructice manner.
Just like working with Lightroom. You can have many (ghost-)copys with different settings from just one file so you don't have to rename or hardcopy anything.
It was my initial impression that QI Page editor is just working like that. So on the left side there's my original image/file, next i have to press the plus-button to add it to the page-layout then change some settings and 'done' ("apply the filter to the current image").
And so on...Pressing + / edit filter / done. All based on the same file. And then hit print to check lets say 10 different flavors inlcuding different interp. Fusion settings on paper before printing the final 44 inch picture.

QU creates a filter file and gives it the same name as the image (more or less) but with a .flt file extension. So there is a one to one relationship between each image and its filter file. But only within each folder.  So you could create a dozen folders and put a copy of the image in each folder; QU  would then store the edited filter for each photo in the folder along with the image.

I have also done this test sheet on occasion by simply making multiple copies of the image and naming each one according to the filter I wanted to use. for example, I once had a photo of a couple taken under disco lighting conditions and I was having a difficult time getting a decent flesh tone.  So I created a bunch of copies of the image with names like IMG1234-R+5B-3 to indicate the Red and Blue color settings - then applied the filter to match the file name.

Just a couple of suggestions

Rico, your English is fine.
I just do not use Lightroom and I do not try to make Qimage into Lightroom.
I have trouble comprehending some terms like "Ghost copies". What are they?
If you mean you can see the changes you made but it is not saved in an image file, just viewed, then you need the Image Editor screen, not page editor.

I also have a problem using the phrase "Hard Copy"
That means a PRINT, on paper to me.

Hi Fred. Thanks for the reply.

Your statement above is what I am working from.  (You never mentioned whether you have JPGS or RAW.... now I will assume RAW because you worry about jpg artifacts.)
So here's my solution and it covers your refusal to make renamed duplicate images RAW, and it covers no JPG artifacts.
Mel gave you a fine solution and even explains what he is actually doing to accomplish the task.

I assume then that you have been in the RAW Refine screen and have set your fill and exposure>>>    Saved.
Now put the image in the queue.
Double click in the center of that image in the preview panel (upper right). That puts you in the image editor.

Here you add various adjustments or minus adjustments.
When you have what you want, the next step is to Click FILE, SAVE AS...
When the box opens you can select a TIF as the type of file, you can select the Interpolator, resolution, Profile conversion or not, and name it to match what you did to it.
See list attached.

Sorry, Rico.
Best I can do.
If anyone has a better idea, Chime in of course.

MelW hit the nail on the head.  Because the filter file (.flw) is linked to the image, you can't have different filter files for a single image in a given folder.
