There used to be a setting in Preferences allowing me to display file names instead of thumbs in the main display window. Where do I find this option, please?

Anthony,
Click EDIT, PREFERENCES, Thumbs ON/OFF, two from the bottom in the drop down menu.

Hello Fred

That just removes the photo from the square holder. I'm after the Qimage arrangement where you can choose to display the file names under each other as in explorer

That option to have a list of file names is not available in Ultimate.
Mike has explained before when others have asked for a list, that Ultimate runs differently, and is based on thumbnail + to insert images, and RMB to refine Raws, Creation of higher quality thumbs and cache files for rapid access.
It really serves no purpose during the normal operation of Ultimate.
You still can read the filnames under the empty thumb templates, if you wish.

Sorry,
Fred

Yes, and just for a little insider info... even that is being improved very soon, where you can hover your mouse over the name (in the thumbnails) and it'll display the full file name if it is too long to fit under the thumbs.  That simply helps with long file names.

I don"t want to be a pain and TOTALLY understand if it is difficult to do; however, I would also appreciate the option that was in Studio to have the filename list. It would speed up my processes.

Since my cataloging, etc. is done in LR, I select a small number of "keepers" that I want to further edit/enhance and print in QIU. Since allot of the photos are very similar in appearance and sometimes I need to go back to them much later in time, opening up the list with complete files names was a snap.

If I need to get to specific photos right away after my renaming process, I could go right to the photo without waiting for the thumbs to build for the first time.

Again, if this is not doable or your intent Mike, there is no problem at all. I adjust easily
