I own an Epson 4900 Printer. This printer is able to use paper from a roll.
One question I offen have: How much paper is left on the roll.
OK, their is a buildin accounting system in the printer, but normally (spells allways) I mess it up by pushing the wrong button  Grin

So I ask if it is possible to integrate such a tool/function into Qimage.
The information from the Automated Job Log is not sufficient since there is no information about the paper.
Since I sometimes use different profiles for the same paper, the icc-profile in the data doesn't help here.

Any ideas/opion about this request?

Hi Win
I have been pondering your question, and smiling.

The more I thing about it the more I think it can be done, although it should be the responsibility of the printer to measure roller turns and the inches of paper it moved.

That having been said, I  wonder if Qimage could keep track of the page length used.
For example, if you used sheets and had to tell the driver the paper size you were using, it could keep, track of length times repetitions.
With roll paper, you still have to USER DEFINE the length, so it might work.

We have to see what Mike has to say.

Hi Winfried,

Actually there is, both page size and print size in the File Details.
See screen shot below.
Some analysis of those files with a spread sheet could give you some data but you'd need to set up some macros to make it easier!

Yes that is partly right.
------
* Qimage v2015.111
* Printing to: Epson Stylus Pro 4900(Netzwerk)
* Page: 426.0 x 314.0 mm.  (360 x 360)
* Printer ICC profile: TC_SP4900_PL285_2880_281010 (P, BPC)
* Interpolation: Max-360 PPI/High-180 PPI/Fusion
* Print sharpening: On
* Global filter: Off
* Print filter: Off
* Canvas shrinkage comp: 0.00
* Copies of each page: 1
* Job started: 2015-01-24 07.52.45
* Job finished: 2015-01-24 07.53.09

2,G:\Bearbeitung\2014\07_Juli\K-5_57962_14-1.jpg,400.0,300.0
3,G:\Bearbeitung\2014\07_Juli\K-5_57976_14-1-1.jpg,400.0,300.0
---------
The page size is just the printable area. Ok, that a slighter problem.
The defined paper ist 432.0mm x 320.0 mm (the non printable area is 3 mm)
I printed 3 pages. ok
I used  the profile "TC_SP4900_PL285_2880_281010". This is for a special brand of paper.
Sometimes I use a different profile or even no profile (for black/white) with this paper.
And I use sheet papier of the same brand and use therefor the same profile.
So it is not allways clear what (roll of) paper I used.

That's why I put this feature request.

On some machinery doing that would have more serious consequences! You could do what other industries do: training!

If I recall it correctly some printer brands solve it by printing the used length or remaining length plus a bar code for the paper type on the leading edge of the roll after the last print is done. Makes extra waste of paper but at least keeps the administration data on the roll itself.

Met vriendelijke groet, Ernst
