I'm struggling with printing a pano greeting card. I'm using a template, and when I print a test on plain paper, it prints perfectly. But if I change the profile to matte paper it doesn't print the complete image.

The image size is  3.76 X 8.73 when printed on plain paper, when I change the profile to enhanced matte, it always prints shorter. The long end now cuts off at 8.31, not printing the full image.

The card size is 8 X 9 inches. The printer is an Epson 4880.

Does anyone have any idea on what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

Nothing really  wrong.
Is the card stock actually 9 x 8?
If so, that explains all.
The maximum size the 4880 can print on a 9.0 x 8.0 paper is 8.333 x 7.766
See screen snap attached.
The reason it can print on the plain paper is probably because you allow the plain paper setting to think it is printing to 8.5 x 11 paper.

Try to reduce the size of your image to less than 8.33. It should work fine then.

Fred
PS I forgot to mention taht it is easy to do. Just open the print in the page editor, and drag a corner inboard a bit until the dimension changes (upper right) to what you need. Then click OK

Hi Fred,

You're correct on the paper sizing.

The 4880 won't print smaller than a 8 X 10, so to print greeting cards I've had to create a template on a sheet of 8.5 X 11. I then place the images/text on the page as if it was 7 X 10 card stock. I then turn off the "check paper size setting" in the printer menu. Everything prints out perfectly on the greeting card, see attached template.

I'm using the same procedure for the new pano card stock, with a template also.

I cut down letter size paper to 8 X 9 to match the pano card stock for testing. Both the plain paper & enhanced paper are set up as 8.5 X 11 in the printer driver. When I print on plain paper everything prints perfectly, when I change it to the enhanced paper setting, it doesn't, stopping about a 1/2 in short. Both have the paper sizing as 8.5 X 11.

Thanks for helping,
Bob

How do you know the long side is cutting off at 8.31?  Is Qimage showing that size or are you measuring it (kinda doubt you are measuring to the 100th of an inch though).  If Qimage is showing 8.31, it means that you have a different printable area when you select matte paper and Qimage is giving you all it can for that paper type (with the margins as-defined by the driver).  Sometimes drivers have different printable areas for different types of paper.

On the other hand, if Qimage is showing you one size (say 8.73) but you actually get a different size, then the "Reduce/Enlarge" checkbox in the driver is checked.  In that instance, make sure you uncheck that box.

Regards,
Mike

My Epson 3880 has very different margins for A3 Plain Paper (front loading slot) and Art paper (rear loading slot), perhaps this is the problem.

Mike & Brian,

Thanks so much for the help.

It does look like the issue is the different printable area based on the type of paper as both of you thought.  I want to print the cards with only a 1/8 of inch border, but it looks like I'll have to figure out a different way to make it happen.  Cheesy

Thanks again,
Bob
