I click on 8 x 10 and get a print 7 x 10.
Without auto-cropping the result is 6 x 9.

Please advise.
Thanks

Hi,
Need more information than that, please.
What version of Qimage?
Are you saying that you set the print size to 8 x 10, and even with cropping turned on, you are getting 7 x 10?
With the cropping off, you get 6 x 9?
This is actual print measurement or the print size that Qimage is reporting from the queue?
What brand and model printer?

Ok we are almost there....
I need to see or you can tell me what your screen says from my two sample screen snaps.
What is the reported print size that Qimage is preparing?
You can see in my snap of the queue, it shows 8 x 10

In the other snap, I need to know what it says above the upper right print preview screen; what Qimage is reporting for printable area and input ppi.

Ok this tells me all we need to know.
If Qimage Ultimate says in the queue that it is making an 8 x 10 to send to the printer, you can bet the farm it is true.

So we don't think about that anymore.

Your printable area is also correct. Assuming you have 8.5 x 11 inch paper in use.
That leaves the printer driver settings.

It is a good bet you have a check mark in a box called Reduce Enlarge document. See snap.
Make sure there is no check mark in there.

If you don't find the checkmark, then we will use an alternate method.

The alternate method would be to click HELP in Qimage, and then click RESET PRINTER settings.
Then you will have to reset the paper type, print quality, color controls (whether you use a printer profile or not). This is not difficult nut I'm just reminding you that RESET sets the driver to default settings.
Let us know!

Hi Fred

Tried both of your suggestions;  no luck.
Still 7 x 10.

Good Morning,
I would like to ask you not to get upset with me if I ask you to go over your previous answers.
I think we have good evidence that the problem lies either in the driver, (a bug or settings wrong); or some piece of information is incorrect.

Let's take one that I just skipped over the first time I read your initial post. My fault!
I missed it.

You wrote:

That's impossible to do in Qimage, if you really did select 8 x 10 as your print size.
Think about it for a moment.   If you select 8 x 10 as your print size, the 10 inch side will fill out to 10".
With auto crop OFF, that 10 inch side is still 10". The side that should be 8.0 inches is now short by difference in aspect ratio between the 4:5 of the print, and the ratio of sides of the image!

So a typical image from my Canon 20D is 3:2 ratio. With auto crop off, I will still get 10" x 6.67" for my print.

I also did a full print out to PRINT PREVIEW,  and I get 8 x 10 in the preview screen.
So I ask you to recheck the numbers you posted earlier.

Can you do screen snaps?
I would like a screen snap of the main Qimage Ultimate screen
If it's too big to post here, then you can email it to me at wathree.ssz@verizon.net

See my image 029. It shows the open print queue tab on the lower part and the report that Qimage is showing at the upper part.

032 and 033 are driver screens.
I really would like a full screen shot is I can get it.

We need to find the error somewhere.

Hi Fred

First of all thanks for trying to lead me through this mire.  What probably seems obvious to you and most people on this forum is often incomprehensible to me.

If you are still up to it could you explain how to do a screen snap, so that I can continue bothering you.

It just dawned on me.  The original photo is not 8 x 10.  Is this the problem?
I thought that clicking 8 x 10 in Q would crop my odd-sized photo to these dimensions.

It should when you click on the crop scissors to turn crop on. Note, you have to have the image selected to turn crop on. But your problem seems more complicated, with or without crop scissors, the longer dimension should be 10. Could it be margins are set?

I use a little program called Greenshot. It's free and can be downloaded here:

Jeff,
The information from Mr. Pomko is that he confirmed that the printable area was the same as the screen snap I sent in an earlier post. ( I attach here again)
Once he confirms that number, it tells us the selected paper size is correct, and there are no altered margins.
The next bit to consider is that he tells us he gets the same crazy size prints from Elements.
Remember he said that he RESET PRINTER so that shouid clear the driver.

The only thing left is a mismarked ruler that he is using to measure the prints.
I know that sounds outlandish, but I recall tearing my hair out one day (it never grew back) over a problem similar in nature where the prints went off the page and nothing was wrong.
Turned out the paper was 8 x 10 and he thought he bought 8.5 x 11.

I have the driver.... it works the same and looks the same as the R series except there's no roll paper.   The print preview is correct!!
Possible that Mr. Pomko has some odd sized paper? Even then, we have to have the 10" dimension side filled.

It's good for us to toss it back and forth. Maybe a spark gets generated.

At this point, screen snaps are a must!!   We are getting some information that doesn't wash!

Yesterday, I got an image from a friend, 5251 x 28290. He was experimenting with a new stitching program to make panoramas.
There were some vertical lines looking like overlap, so I made an 8 x 10 test print on 8.5 x 11 paper.
Regardless of the ratio of length to width, I still get my 10" length.    See screen snap.

Keep tossing in ideas, until we get the FULL screen snaps from Mr. Pomko.

I won't be able to implement your suggestions until this evening, but before leaving I printed  8 x 10's on a different printer (Canon), and got the same results.

Autocrop ON  -  7 x 10
Autocrop OFF -  6 x 9

So it's not the printer.

I didn't try printing with Photoshop Elements this time, but I suspect the results may be the same.

So if it's not the printer and it's not Qimage or PSE, then it must be me;  I must be making a basically stupid mistake; something so basic that you may not even suspect.

Anyway, I'll try again later today.

Thanks
