Title: Requirements for "Best" QU Performance?
Post by: rachlinent on November 02, 2010, 06:09:09 PM
I'm about to purchase a new laptop computer, finally moving to WIN 7.  Does/will a 64 bit machine make a significant difference in QU's performance to justify the extra cost?  How much ram should I include to maximize performance?  How much difference will a dedicated graphics card make?  I'm considering the Dell Studio 15 or their Precision M4500 Mobile workstation.  Does anyone have experience with either of these machines?  Appreciate any suggestions and comments to help my decision since I'm a photographer and QU is my most important software.

From a Qimage standpoint, I can tell you that the best performance will be achieved by having at least 4 cores and a relatively fast CPU speed (say 2.6 Ghz or higher for a desktop, not sure about a laptop).  I think any machine these days will have at least 4 GB of RAM so the rest of the requirements like HD space, whether you need Blu-Ray or not, type and size of display, are pretty much personal preference based on the type of work you are doing.

Mike

Thanks Mike!  I ordered a laptop with an I7-740QM, quad core with turbo boost to 2.92GHz.  It will arrive with 4GB RAM and I can increase it to 8GB.  I'll be using WIN 7 64 bit.  It also will include both an on-board Intel graphics chip as well as an ATI graphics card with 1GB VRAM.  I'm hoping/expecting that it will 'blaze" compared to my 4 year old laptop!
