Title: Saving Photo with Text caption
Post by: Grandphoto on October 30, 2020, 07:48:28 PM
Hello and help!

I've been trying to save a landscape photo that has a caption along the lower margin.  I can save the image OK, but the caption never gets saved . . . anyone know the solution, or what I'm doing wrong.

Not sure what type of caption: Floating text, annotated text, or print info.
All these are  text applications that apply to the print when printing. They will be saved as a JOB if you save it as a JOB.
If you actually want to apply the text to the image, you can do this easily by doing a Print to File.
Right click on the Properties button, and follow through.  Takes 10 seconds.
Need more help, just yell.

Fred, I'm yelling as loud as I can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the photo all set to print with a floating text caption . . . it prints out just fine . . . . but, I cannot for the life of me save the file "AS IS" with the floating text caption.  I am using the JOB option when saving.

What I'd like to see in the saved file is the landscape scene with the 1/2" border at the bottom with the floating text caption . . . but, once saved, the photo only shows the landscape scene, the text is no longer there!

I've sent you an Email about this, too!

Just to clarify, you are adding floating text in the page editor, and then exiting the page editor and saving the job, and when the dialog asks if you want to save the job or just the settings, you select job?

Yes, that's what I've been doing as you described above . . . and then I do a "job" saving.

yes JOB saves everything.
I have spent a good bit of time trying to make a series of Screen snapshow how to print to file. All to big to post here.
Let me try to email. I see you sent me an email

I'm not sure what this would prove, but since you say it printed fine with the caption, try recalling the job from the automated job log (rather than the job that you saved) and see that it has the caption.

Mel,

Tried your suggestion and I was able to bring the photo up and WITH the caption . . . that's pretty good, but I want to save the image with the caption to a folder on my desktop, so I can work it or edit it with another photo editing program.  When I try to save it, as I've stated before, I lose the caption.

Thanks for your help.

Fred

Have you tried a Print to File as Fred suggested?

Go to -  File > Print to > Printer/File

Select File and follow the resulting options..

Hi Jeff,

I tried your suggestion.  And tried to save the file with the caption to the folder on my desktop.  I named the file Jeff's Suggestion.  That folder I tried to save it to is labeled, Photos to Edit.  And this is what was saved, see the snagged file result, actually multiple files.  One of the files is actually the icon from my Avery DesignPro 5 Deluxe Edition software?????

So why do I end up with 5 separate files?  When I click on any one of them, all I get is an error message.

Help!

As I explained in the email with all the steps labeled and in order, that the last image labeled LANDSC4.jpg was the finished product with the text embedded.
It was This can be placed anywhere with text embedded in the image too big to post here so I reduced the  quality to 50% and here it is again.

To verify, I could not have posted the image here if the text was not embedded.

You did the same thing here as in the emails with us. These are not saved images from Qimage. These are saved jobs from the qimage save folder.
These are internal files that keep data for your jobs.
The saved images are usually saved in the same folder where the original is saved unless you renamed it and saved in your own choice of location.
THESE ARE NOT SAVED IMAGES

Look carefully at the screen snap here. If you followed the step by step instructions in the email I sent, you would have come across this screen.
See where it is asking for a NAME and at the top it is asking for a save location.
That is where you are  messing up.
Fred

PS Where are you located for a phone LIVE chat?

Figured it was time for a video response showing a demo of how to do this, so here you go...

Many, many thanks to all for your advice, help and suggestions, and especially to Fred and Mike for his video.  I finally was able to save my photo(s) to the folder on my desktop.  It was not using the "save to file" option correctly that was messing me up.

By being able to save my photo files to the folder on my desktop I am now able to use my HDR program for additional editing which was my original plan . . . so the other thread I started has now been answered, as well.

Thanks again to all . . .
