Title: CR3 files
Post by: sruggles0511 on August 21, 2021, 08:35:21 AM
Why are my cr3 files red and how do I fix that.

Need a bit more info.  What camera?  What version of Qimage?

Also, define "red".  Are we talking red as in "broken" red... or red like bad white balance red (red tint)?

Regards,
Mike

I have CR3 files that are normal.
I must ask what version of Qimage are you running? Mike adds camera profiles to most every upgrade.
Mike added it in 2020. M50D.icm  is the corresponding camera profile.
See screen snap below. It is showing that the CR3 was open in the camera profile color space.

all of my pictures have a red tint, it is to Canon R5. The CR2 files from my 5d mark4 and7d mark 2 look good.

It is the newest version 2022.100

I don't think LibRaw fully supports all features for the R5 yet.  CR3 support in LibRaw is very new and they make improvements in every revision so it will likely get improved in coming months.

Mike

Develop with Canon's raw developing software, save as TIFF, and print the TIFF in Qimage.  When LibRaw is updated to support the R5, you'll be able to develop them directly in Qimage.

Mike

I've updated LibRaw three times (once just yesterday in 108).  The majority of CR3 format raws work fine.  There are a few models like the R5 that have not been cracked yet so we just have to wait.  In the mean time, we can blame manufacturers like Canon for unnecessarily complicating things by creating new raw formats and not publishing specs.

Hi Fred,
On reading your reply, my curiosity got the better of me so I opened a raw_ORF file in Qimage to see where this camera profile shows up. but for the love of me I just can't see it.
Can you enlighten me please.
Bill

OK Bill, The color space is shown in the HOTBAR located at the bottom of the Qimage screen.
If you look at the screen snap, you can see the camera profile that is being used. The right edge of the information strip in the Hot Bar.

Make sure the hotbar is turned on, of course.
Make sure the USE The Camera profile is checked.   See screen snap The little skinny snap shows the profile

Hi Fred,
Color space in my hotbar reads icc.adobe.icm. There is no mention of a camera profile. Where is it located as I would like to switch it on.Also I never noticed this hotbar before. How is switched?

Bill if you see the hotbar, then it's on. But just for knowledge, HOTBAR is turned on / off at EDIT Preferences and second from the bottom:::: EXIF Hotbar.
The screen snap from Wed. that I sent, image 071, shows you the proper setting.
This saying to Qimage," Use my camera profile...... if you do not find any, then use Adobe rgb.
What camera are you using?
If you have the latest Qimage, then check the folder named Profiles by clicking Utilities/ Explore Qimage application data. There's a list of cameras for which there are camera profiles.

Thanks Fred.

Adobe, sRGB, pRGB, pRG prt are listed but no Adobe RGB. My hotbar is showing ICC: Adobe.icm.
If i wish to change to sRGB, where do I switch it on?

My Olympus camera model namely OMD EM 1 Mark iii is not listed . Any chance of getting it listed?
Another question for you! What is a Hot folder? And what purpose does it service?

In the absence of a camera dedicated profile which profile do you recommend I should use?
Bill

The answer is right there in screen snap 071. Change the checkmark from Adobe to srgb.

There is a way, but you will be asked to help. Email Mike that you would like a camera profile for your model camera.
He will search any and all possible resources, and if nothing found, will send you instructions on how to take a special shot with the camera, and send it back to him.

Last Question: Hot Folder.  Click FILE/ Hotfolder/ SET UP. All the instructions are there.

Fred
Looks like we made it to page (2) of this topic. So I am adding that screen snap 071 here to make it easier.

Okay, Fred, I give up.  Where do I find the dialog box in screen snap 071?  I think I've looked everywhere, but obviously I haven't.  Help!

I'll do my best!
First is 078. Click Edit and Preferences to get that shot.
Next is to  find Raw Format Options in that drop down menu. See 079.

Click Raw format options and there's the 080 that you want.

Thanks, Fred!  That was it.  And for some reason I definitely kept overlooking raw format options.  All's good now.  Thanks again.

Also, it's worth it to experiment with the raw options. IMO, the best settings differ from camera to camera so far as sharpening, noise reduction and smart color.
