Sorry folks. I have asked this before, but the logic clearly has not sunk in.

Challenge. Six pages of a photo album and about fifty images. Images to be various sizes.

I browse and build them into a queue, but the queue turns out not to be precisely the right order.

If I select an image that is on one page and Cut it (CNTR X) to the clipboard, how can I control where it gets pasted?

What is the logic about paste before and paste after?

When I Push to Next Page an image why does it sometimes join the next page of images, or choose to go solus on its own page? When it does go solus how do I get the other images on the next page to join it?

I've even found images appearing on my Page One. That is the last place I'd want them as that was the first page I managed to get right and  the last place I'd want mucking up.

Why when I try to 'push' an image does it say I can't push the first image as it would create a blank page - even though there could be several other images there to fill the 'blank'.

I'm in a muddle....!!

Hi Tony

I'm rather afraid there's no solutions in this area - I've tried with cut and paste, before, after, push etc in several drawn out battles with Qimage over the years. I've almost never been able to achieve my objective. These days I come back to it every six months or so and have another shot but usually give it away in frustration.

Qimage is a wonderful product but this part seems to me to be one whole achilles heel, sadly. From my observations the bizarre patterns of behaviour have changed periodically over the years and at least today don't seem to end in program execution errors and crashes as they once did but the whole thing is still pretty unpredictable and generally unusable.

I've generally only been trying to edit across 5 to 10 pages in a queue and I can't get reasonable control of what happens - I simply wouldn't attempt doing it with 50 pages as you have reported

cheers

Well, there is, I've just done it without any problems  Grin
I don't often use this feature, that's hy I had to try it again first.

Here's how:
In the Full Page Editor, select the image to be moved, right click and choose Cut to Clipboard.
Next, move the to page where the image is to be inserted, SELECT an image NEXT to where is to go, right click and choose Paste Before, or After, as appropriate. Done!
This works whether there are several images on a page or just one more-or-less filling the page.

Mike,

To put your mind at rest it is six/seven pages. Fifty images not pages.

Terry,

I have just given it another try. I Cut to clipboard an image on Page Four. I page back with the arrows to Page Two. I select an image on Page Two and Paste After. My image appears on Page One.

Odd?

I've just tried to reproduce this as best I could, 56 images on  6 pages. I did as you had done & cut from page 4, then pasted after on page 2 - all worked as expected, the image from page 4 ended up on page 2.

Are you using the latest version of Qimage? I seem to recall that a small bug was fixed on this some time ago - I may be wrong though  Roll Eyes

Terry,

No change with the latest version of Qimage.

Seven pages and about fifty pix of various sizes.

Cut and Paste one image on Page Three.

Move to Page Two and select an image.

Paste After.

The image that was on Three is now on Page One.

However, I wonder if it matters that the files in the Queue are not in the same order as the images on the Pages. For example, if I click through the frames on Page One I get images dotted around various positions in the Queue. Say position 7 then 2 then 1 then 6 then nine, etc. Might it be that my cut and paste is working from that list rather than the frames as laid out on the pages?

Is this a clue?

Tony

Tony, I have just tried everything and it works correctly.
You may be seeing what seems to be erratic behavior if the destination page is already full with no room for the pasted image. Then the paste before or paste after will move an image to another page where there is room, in order to make room for the paste.

Fred,

My Page Three image, that I tried to paste on to Page Two, ended up on Page One and on top of one of the images already on Page One.

It is not as though Q tried to make space on Page Two by pushing something on to Page Three.

Are you saying, Fred, that I must make space on the receiving page that is adequate to accept the incoming image? Having just typed that it does sound a bit obvious - I guess I got lulled into a false sense of security when I saw Q moving pages around.

That is because you are in Freehand mode for that page and not one of the auto arrange modes.
Try changing back to non-freehand, move the image as required, than go back to freehand if you need to move images around on a page.

Thanks gents,

I tried turning off the Freehand and that seemed to allow the software to re-allocate images to pre-planned pages. So I am not sure it helps. Surely the only way to control all the pages in the album is to make them all Freehand? Once you start allowing Q to optimise it will....optimise!

What does seem to be the secret is to make sure that any Freehand page has enough space to accept the incoming image. It may be a bit random as to where it appears, but as long as it is on the right page it can be re-positioned.

I still don't understand why Push is refused on a multi image page with the warning that it will create a blank page - but I can live without Push as long as I can cut and paste.

 Tony,
Let's say that you have two images on page 3, as well as 2 on pages 1 and 2.
If you want to use PUSH TO NEXT PAGE, you must select the last image of that page, and it works perfectly from any page to the next page.
If you use the last image of page 3, it will create page 4.

Thanks Fred,

So PUSH only works on the last image on a page?

Coming back to the basic problem: getting a large number of images arranged on multiple pages - I would do it this way:
Set up each page individually and save each one as a Session, page 1, 2, .... etc.
That allows you to easily remove an image from a page, replace it and move the images on the page in freehand mode.
Once you have all the pages sorted out, Recall each one in turn to the Queue (Append option) so you have them all in place for adding page numbers and printing as required.
You can also save the complete set as a Session or as a Job.
Does that sound ok. to you?
Terry.
