Hi,

Does anyone know of way to add directory location to the info when printing?.
I can only see the dropdown options of Detailed info (EXIF), Filename+extension, Filename only

I looking for something like Directory+Filename+extension.

Thanks,
Seán

This is not available, a you say, as "Info".
However, it is as Floating Text in the Full Page Editor: right hand icon under the page preview.

Thanks Terry.

It would be a nice feature for me. I take photographs for work and generate multiple page pdf's for specific jobs. The pdf's are kept in one location but the images are stored in their own job folders. It would be great to automatically add this location/directory at the bottom of each image/page along with the filename.

One for Mike me thinks!

Thanks again,
Seán

This is already available in Qimage.
Just use the template thumbnail from the thumbnail browser as if it was an image. Set that up with size, crop on or off, just as if it was your image.
Go to the Full Page editor, and right click on the large box with the template, and select Floating Text. Set that to whatever information you need in your print, and place it on the template in the location you prefer.
Click Done.
From the main screen, click FILE, and SAVE, and select the "L" button for Layout.
Name your creation, and Save it.
When you want to use it, click CUSTOM, and predefined Layouts and select your creation from the list.
When you add one image or 50 images, Qimage will place your text on every one of them.
You might have to make more than one template since you might be needing landscape and portrait, etc.
Snap 16 shows the text placement in the template.
Snap 17 shows the actual information on the image, ready to be printed.

Is the date photo taken available as a field? (not in front of Qimage right now)

I ask/wonder as a feature I would love in Qimage is to be able to sort images in the Qimage 'browser' by date taken, right now I can only sort by file created date, not imaged date.

The date the photo was taken is part of the EXIF info.
The selections in the Floating test box  that do not say IPTC and are not involved in the path, are what you are looking for. (I think)

$d with give you the date and time the shot was taken.
$c $o $a $s $r $h
Gives you the camera model, the focal lengthy, the aperture, shutter speed, ISO and flash on/off.

Caveat!  Not all information is always in the proper field with every camera, and every image file type.
The filename is usually in sequence from earlier shot to newest shot, and works perfectly as a substitute for sorting by date/time of snap.

I assume you mean in floating text.
Yes but it depends on any converting of the original image.
If the image has been converted in Qimage, the date will be the modified date because the Exif data is not copied to the new image.
If converted in another some other programs, or the exif data has been copied to the new image in some way, then the date taken will show.
Because I do most of my processing in Qimage, it's one reason I always re-name files to include the date and can then use the file name in your situation.
Terry
Edit: with the date as first part of the file name, I sort by name+, thus I don't have to rely on the file date.

I don't know how you are making the pdf's but you can do this with Qimage and something like PDF Creator. PDF-C appears as a printer, so by setting up a templates as Fred suggested and using Floating Text to give the file path in the template, that would get you what you want in the pdf.  Cool
Of course, Qimage is not a word processor or a desk top publishing program, so if you have lots of text in your pdf's, it would not be a suitable method.

That you Fred. That works great if a little fiddly.

I still think that it should/could be as simple as clicking on the info check box.

Maybe an option to include a prefix with info.
Call it Custom and use the same options available in floating text.
This would allow me to get what I want i.e. path+filename ($F) plus
When printing proofs you would be able to add any prefix e.g. Mary & Johnny Wedding $e $f or whatever

It could with another option when you click info
i.e Detailed info (EXIF
Filename + extension
Filename no extension
Custom

or put a 'dot' beside the info button to bring up a custom info dialog box in a similar way to the one beside print res poster res etc.

Just a thought.

Again thanks Fred and Terry for your help/comments

Glad to be able to help.
I'm sure Mike will see your suggestion and decide if it should be implemented.

Yes I have the correct date info retained in the right exif fields from RAW development thru image editing.  My files names vary as I use three different cameras for the same period of time and I never started a file rename process so I have thousands of files with the out of camera name, this has worked as they each have a different suffix.   I haven't found a good way of sorting by shot date and I will not at this point rename all my files as they exist in duplicate on DVD and 2nd hardrive.  Probably should have when I started out, but the risks are too high to go back and do that for the past years of images.
Anyway this is off subject, but got my curiosity as if Qimage use the exif field with the shot date for some capabilities then there might have been a way to sort by this field as well.

I'm fairly sure Qimage will sort by shot date in the thumbnail view, if it's in the exif data. Go to the View menu, Thumbnail Browser, Sort by .... Check it out  Wink

I'll certainly check (again?) tonight.  I remember checking for this with an older version of Qimage and only found sort by file date.  I'll keep my fingies crossed and hope I was wrong.

Under View...  Thumb/File Browser... Sort by...   there are three choices to sort by either ascending or descending:  name, date and type.  If I choose 'date' it sorts by file date, not by the date that with a Cntl-I (Image Info) is displayed as the Date/Time, which is the shot date for all my images.
