Title: Sigma DP2 raw files unreadable by Qimage
Post by: Thomas Krüger on June 11, 2010, 07:23:09 AM
Qimage can't read the raw files from the Sigma DP2. The raw support for Sigma DP files is probably not available in Qimage. Would it be possible to add this raw format or is it too much work?

Some good soul has decoded the DP format for a monochrome raw converter, the article is here at:

Hi Thomas,

It will probably depend on when Dave Coffin adds it to dcraw. There are only a few raw converters that can handle X3F files, many depend on dcraw. I've only tried acr and  Sigma pp4. The Sigma program appears to give better results than acr, but for me, using win XP, it often crashes. However, if you want the ease of Qimage raw image manipulation, then you could use acr or whatever to convert the x3f to a linear dng file -  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Negative_%28file_format%29 -, and you can open that in Qimage as a raw file.

Best wishes,

Ray

Thanks Ray. I will probably convert to DNG (with an embedded X3F raw file) to use custom profiles made with Colorchecker Passport in Lightroom. This will be my first and last Sigma camera until they open their crippled raw or switch to DNG like Leica, Sinar and others.

Does Qimage see dng's?  All I get are black thumbnails with DNG files.

Sure does!
Opens and gets treated like a RAW file in Qimage. You can use Qimag'e REFINE or any of the other enhancement filters on it.

See attached!

Craig,

I think it has to be a linear dng file - there are others which probably don't play well with qi, and other software.

(iirc, the wiki explains a bit)

Best wishes,

Ray

Well.  Its now seeing all the dng's.  Taking a while to rebuild thumbs.  This is after I went into Lightroom's metadata panel and clicked on Update DNG Preview and Metadata
