I am suffering constant computer crashes.
Win7/64 No rubbish - crap progs installed, no dodgy sites visited.
In Qimage, Chrome and Firefox, etc only manage a few actions before computer hangs with the revolving circle running continuous.  Three fingers does not work so only thing is to power down and start again, a few actions and same result.
I attach a screen dump of the Event Log, what it is telling me I do not know.
I have been trying to DnLd "WhoCrashed" but cannot get system to run long enough to finish  the DnLd.
Any Ideas.
Jeff
PS doing this is safe mode and and WordPad, still running which is an improvement.

Have you checked the FANS? Especially the one mounted on the CPU and / or the Video board.?

There are 4 fans and all appear to be ok, But, the Video card does not have one, just a heat sink and it is only warm to touch, tower case is running with both sides off, and it's not hot weather at moment.

Now running in safe mode and not yet crashed, managed to get "Who Crashed" DnLded and installed, but it tells me nothing.

I am beginning to think it,s a driver problem say something on the Video card / display, when 'crash' occurs with Qimage the screen goes VERY light and when restarted I have the impression the images are darker.

I wonder if there is any way of identifying the drivers not running under safe mode.

I will now have a driver inspection

Can you go back to a previous restore point before it crapped on you?
Do you have an Acronis Image backup from before the issue?

Did a restore as far back as possible when events first started and after a bad Windows auto update.

Image backup is many months old so would probably be better to do a reinstall.

Now dnlding latest driver for Graphics Card, 250MB is going to take a while.

We don't go in for guns this side the pond so you are quite safe.

Still running Ok in Safe Mode.

Will be closing down after driver has come through.

It is camera club night, a talk and demo by a prominent judge, our turn to say the images are crap Smiley Smiley Smiley

Installed the 'updated' driver and then ran QUltimate which then ran ok much longer for say 10 minutes then hung as before.

Further investigation later

- This is on XP which still runs 100% -

It proves one thing.

Have you checked for viruses and Malware.?

On good old XP again Smiley

Obviously I cannot be 100% sure not a virus, but i don't thing so.

I had another QU session last thing yesterday, First effort ran for 15 minutes and a few images processed.

Second effort managed 1/2 Hour, but the longer run showed up some 'funny' things.

EG. cannot drag multi thumbs to the queue, dragging only takes one of the selected thumbs.

If a processed image is left in the queue frequently dragging the next image results in the image already in the queue showing distortion - width or breadth stretched - and a warning that image is larger than page.  Sometimes the previous images shows up twice in queue, one ok one distorted.

I am cumming to think it is a graphics card display problem, as the updated driver has improved things a little, or at least progs run for longer.

My basic method with  QU is to set page to A4, fit image to page, process and mostly end with a degree of cropping, so I would not expect a warning that image is larger than page.
Clear the queue of the offending image and then readd to the queue and it is ok.

The last back up clone I have is as at 21.12.13 on a separate disc removed from Comp.  I am considering putting this disk in and seeing what happens.  All this faffing about takes a lot of time!

Thanks for all suggestions

Update.

I think I have found problem but not the remedy.

Every time MS did an update crashes resumed, so I have disabled MS updates and all runs normal!

Now running unsecured.

Have taken bull by the horns and ordered a large SSD and will do a complete reinstall.
