Title: operating camera from laptop
Post by: derrick on March 05, 2010, 10:09:58 PM
Hi all have just purchased a nikon  d5000 and was wondering if there was any software that will enable me to operate the camera from the laptop. have previously used a canon eos 1000 and that came with the software. But if i want to use the nikon software it is going to cost me another £1000 +.
Any ideas
Cheers Del.

Hi Del,

I'm not a Nikon user  :), but a simple web search found a few links which may be useful. Not sure if any work with your camera -

http://www.breezesys.com/purchase_nkremote.htm

http://stefan.hafeneger.name/2009/03/10/nikon-control-beta-2/

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Camera-Control-Software-Windows/dp/B000GEWUL2

Hopefully a Nikon user will supply some info

Best wishes,

Ray

I searched on "tethered dslr shooting".

The alternative is to take the Nikon back and get a Canon again  ;D
Just joking.
I know someone at the photo club who does wireless tethered shooting for events, with a Nikon, but unfortunately, I'll not be seeing him for a while.  :(

Terry.

I always shoot tethered. My wife never lets me out of her sight especially when we do beach shooting.

If you own an Apple iPod Touch or iPhone, you may want to look at a product from onOne Software called DSLR Camera Remote. Interesting idea...

Nikon's own Camera Control Pro 2 works very well but is not particularly cheap (about 130 UKP). It support all functions of the latest Nikon DSLR's including Live View.

Hope this helps,

John

Try fast picture viewer pro at www.fastpictureviewer.com.  It includes tethered for most recent Nikons as part of the package.  Currently $40 (USD).

Lightroom 3 supports tethered shooting with the D5000.
