Title: Software to boost USB 2 Transfer Rates to an External HD Post by: Terry-M on February 11, 2010, 01:39:28 PM I recently purchased a LaCie 1TB USB external Hard Drive. It came with FNet TurboHDD USB software, tailored to run with LaCie only, that did really boost transfer rates by up to 30% on my set-up.
Unfortunately the LaCie HDD had to be returned because it did not spin down when the PC was turned off, and if left spinning, caused a blue screen on the PC at start up. I replaced the LaCie with a Western Digital 1TB Elements USB HDD which behaves very well in addition to being cheaper! :) Does anyone know how to obtain the FNet TurboHDD USB software which, as far as I can see from a Japanese web site, is capable of being used with any external HDD? An English web site would be helpful ::) Alternatively, is there something similar from another software house? Is that in the area of interest? Jeff Title: Re: Software to boost USB 2 Transfer Rates to an External HD Post by: Terry-M on February 11, 2010, 05:50:08 PM Jeff,
Thanks, that is exactly the program. Odd that I could not find that page on the FNet web site ??? However, there's is no Western Digital version >:( I asked WD too & they say nothing doing. I found a Japanese site with a universal version (I think) but the demo said the time had expired when I loaded it. Terry. Is this merely some caching algorithm. USB 2.0 has finite specs and true maximum transfer rates. Just as SATA does not really transfer at 3GB. I am starting to see references to USB 4.0 lately :o. USB 3.0 is not properly off the ground yet.Terry. Title: Re: Software to boost USB 2 Transfer Rates to an External HD Post by: Seth on February 26, 2010, 05:26:50 PM I think it's the consumer game. Kind of like the Firewire 400 to 800 jump. Perception ::)
Then again, it may have been mis-stated. |
