I can't thank you enough for Flashpipe. It's a really great tool that meets my needs.
I'm a professional photog and after shooting weddings and other events need to download anywhere from 1200-4000 images from my own cameras and those of my associates.
I might come home from a wedding at 2AM and than spend time downloading images before my next day of meetings.
I also rename my photos to the date time stamp. This should be a simple task in Adobe bridge or Lightroom, but because of memory mismanagement neither program does a good job of renaming and a very simple task was a real time killer. For example Adobe Bridge CS3 would rename some files correctly and than start renaming all files to the date and time of the computer when the operation was performed. A memory issue Adobe never bothered to fix from what I understand. Renaming files in Lightroom will sometimes work but more frequently abort saying a file can't be renamed and than I need to spend time to rename them in misc sized batches until they are all done.

Last night, I threw eight cards into my new Delkin 8 slot card reader, started your program and went to bed. This morning it's all downloaded and renamed. Many thanks. I've been a fan of Qimage for years and once again you've hit a home run.

Thanks

Thanks.  I appreciate the feedback!  That's just what FlashPipe was meant to do: simplify something that has traditionally not been very easy to do.  Glad it is helping.

I find the above comment very useful since I use Lightroom to manage my photo library.  I am a devoted user of Qimage for the last 6+ years so I really want to like FlashPipe.  However, I am used to importing photos through Lightroom with the photos sorted into folders by capture date.  All folders are kept within a higher order folder by month.  In Lightroom, if I want to see all photos for a month, I need only click on the folder titled by the month and all of the photos are listed and then I can click on each folder to see the photos per date.  I also like that I can select certain photos for import in Lightroom if I want to.

I have reviewed the online literature about FlashPipe and watched the video so I am familiar with its features to date.  Perhaps I am too comfortable with what I am doing right now to see the potential that FlashPipe adds to my workflow which includes the use of Lightroom.  I would appreciate advice about how FlashPipe can be used in an efficient manner for someone like me.  This program looks very useful and I would like to integrate it into my workflow if possible.

Thanks,
Chris

gonzuller I have a very similar situation as you. I presently use LR to import from a card reader to my PC and process the raw image. Qimage I use for my printing as long as you have.

My folder structure is My Photos> 2009-Jan-Jun>>2009-01-15-(topic)
                                                                   >2009-Jul-Dec>>2009-07-19-jrgolf

I am also interested in FlashPipe.

I have now been playing with the trial version for a couple of days and I can say that I like the speed with which the files are downloaded and I very much like the choices for file-naming; they are very flexible.  However, I am still not sold on having all files downloaded to one folder that is named for the download date.  I would like more choices here.  And, yes, I remain stuck on the comfort (perceived or otherwise Smiley) of having the files downloaded to sub-folders by date.

 Mike,
Got back from the Jungle Gardens, which by the way, changed its hours to open at 10:00 instead of 9:00, and I have about 65 shots on my card.
I am in a real pickle here with FlashPipe. Do I need to make one folder per shot?     It seems that I would not be a pro if I just uploaded to a folder that said, 09-30-2009-FJG, (FJG = Fred Jungle Gardens) and put all the raw shots in there.  After all, there are some flamingoes, some ducks, some herons, and a swan. I doubt if those bird species could all exist in the same folder.

Many times, flamingoes will fight each other so a folder of flamingoes only, would not be acceptable either.
I think I can see a point to having each shot in its own folder. No fighting between birds at all. !!

Well I wouldn't want you to cry fowl.  Grin  I've just about decided on a way to do the "many folder" option without photos getting lost so you may be able to separate your birds in the future.  Tongue

I *was chicken* to make my last post until I realized, what about a person who captures an image of a hawk and a dove on the same card?
Thank goodness that you have come up with a method to solve these dilemmas.

To clarify my position on this matter.  The desire for some form of separate sub-folders is merely that: a desire for some of us who prefer that method.  I, and others, have also expressed a willingness to look at other options in addition to the method that FlashPipe currently employs.  Mike--in his usually attentive way--has proposed some alternatives and has communicated that he is working on some form of our request (Thank you, Mike).  I have no aspirations to be a pro or to be like a pro, but I currently like for my files to downloaded and managed in a certain way.  That is all.  Nothing more than a request.

Replying to subscribe.

Ref methods of separating on the fly.  My example would be say an airshow (breakdown by aircraft type) or say a TriAthlon (one CF card could have a mix of two or even the three disciplines)

Having said that ~ could this dilute the prime aim of FP i.e. to transfer images!  If you are making a filter choice based on image content surely you would need to be viewing the imegs one by one or at least by selection based on break points in the numbering.

Note - interestingly ref the TriAthlon.  I have shot with three other togs and the lead guy made sure we set the camera clocks to the same time so in LR he could sort/display by timestamp but if all four cards were so sorted on the fly by FP that could be of added interest to him?
