How to make a complete cockup with FP

First, in no way the fault of FP

I have two external hard drives Q and R drive. R drive being a backup mirror of Q

I originally set up FP to reflect this setup. All went well for some months, fire up Vista, switch on Q then switch on R, insert sd card which took up S drive. Then all of a sudden unnoticed by me Windows decided to mess around with the drive designations. R became Q, S became R!!! etc.

What a mess that made.

The 4 gig SD card ended up full of images off my system, stuff that was not on any of the Q, R, and S drives. It even picked up PS Brushes I had downloaded off various sites and were residing in the C download folder. I had to manually rescue the required images.

I cannot get the drives to load with the correct designations so have to set up FP each time reflect the windows designations.

Good morning Jeff,
I wonder if you are aware that you can and should assign drive letters to your drives instead of letting windows assign them.
I have an external drive, and sometimes it's an I: and sometimes it's E: depending on what else I had turned on that needed a drive letter and which loaded first.
So I assign a drive letter by going to:
1) Control Panel
2) Administrative tools
3) Comp. Management
4)Storage
5)Disk Management.

You will see a graphic representation of your drives
Right click on the drive (sometimes on the wide part and sometimes on the square part with letter depending on whether it is running)
You see Change Drive Letter and Path.
Follow the prompts.
One note. If you want to make Q into R, R has to be unspoken for. So assign that one any temporary letter for a moment.

I think I tried allocating drive letters, and that did not work. But, I expect as usual it is me that is at fault, (got to that certain age) I will have another go using your info above. I would like to get the issue sorted as I expect to come back from holiday with a few hundred images and it is great to let FP sort out the download.

Back to the subject ..
When I recently installed an extra internal hard drive, Windows re-allocated all the drive letters, except C and those on a network drive which I left alone and I've not had any problems with FlashPipe. I did have to browse to the new card reader drive letter, that's all.
I always copy to my C-drive and an allocated folder on the network drive.

I can see Jeff's situation.
He sets his rows in Flash Pipe typically:
Copy: Card reader letter to C:\picture folder.
Move: Card reader letter to (External drive) E:\picture folder, and E: was assigned to some other drive device.
I had that problem when I was running Vista from one drive, and W7 from another drive.
Each boot of a different OS picked up my External drive with a different letter, and my batch files that I wrote couldn't find the drive. For example, I have a batch file for copying my movie list to Marilyn's computer through the network and another copy to the external drive.
That External drive is named in the batch file.
It must match the assigned drive letter. So I locked in the drive letter using the system mention in my earlier post.

Hello All

Just reallocated the drive letters, thanks to Fred instructions - I must have been there before when attaching the new drives, memory now shot so cannot remember-.

All now working fine, in future I will have to remember (that memory again) to check that Vista has not done it's own thing again.
