I would find the software more suited to my needs if I could

(a) select files from the flash card to copy/move, etc.
(b) have the option for duplicates not to be copied/moved etc.

(I don't think this is possible at present with Flashpipe).

As far as (a) is concerned, even the ability to select by file date or file format alone would be welcome, though display of thumbnails would be useful too.

By the way, I am particularly impressed with the speed of the transfer from the flash card.

Curious to know how you get duplicates on a flash card?

Sounds like you want to do selective/manual copying.  That's something more suited for Windows Explorer.  FlashPipe is for automated transfers.

Also, FlashPipe already has the capability to move just data from certain folders on the flash card.  If you click in the drive/folder grid at the top, you can turn on/off files from certain folders.  For example, if you see a folder named "Canon283" it shows 23 photos and 3 videos that you know you don't want to copy, just click on the 23 and the 3 in the grid.  They will change to [23] and [3] indicating that those files will not be copied.  Undocumented feature (because I didn't think anyone would want to use it) but it's there.  If you just wanted to copy the 23 photos and leave the 3 videos in that folder, just click on the 3 making it a [3] and it'll leave those alone.

Terry: I was not speaking of duplicates on the flash card but of files that had on an earlier occasion been copied from the flash card to the currently selected copy/move-to folder.

Mike:  Since FlashPipe does identify duplicates (and then gives the new copy a distinguishing file name), I thought it wouldn't  be too difficult to have it skip copying/moving those particular files,  that is, if an option to do so is made available, say, on the Settings page.

I agree with that above.
Every time I want to match or copy the contents of a folder on my C:\ drive to a copy I keep on a different drive F:\, and I add a few images to the C drive folder, my copying to the F:\ drive folder makes duplicates and triplicates of the existing images.

Mike

I have the same problem. I think a possible solution would be an Overwrite/Skip/Re-number choice in a dialogue box.

I don't see this as a problem but a necessary feature!  Most people won't be using FlashPipe as a copy program but to download data off flash cards, in which case you'll really never have duplicates.  Right now, FlashPipe can never lose data.  As soon as you put in a feature that allows people to "skip" files, people will start losing data.  They'll think all the data was moved off their flash card when it really wasn't, and the only way to guarantee that no data is lost is to open both the source and target files and do a bitwise compare to make sure the files are truly identical.  And that will be quite slow.

One solution to this is to use MS SyncToy (free)

Mike:

So you want to protect us from ourselves!  A more thoroughgoing way to do that would be to remove the "Move" option and leave us to erase what we want from the flash card independently of FlashPipe.  (Of course, I am not recommending that!)

If you were to provide the overwrite/skip/renumber option (recommended by Brian Price) but only for the "Copy" option, there should be no worry about our mistakenly thinking that all the data have been removed from the card when in fact they were not.  (However, I would prefer that option for "Move" also, and take responsibility for my overwrite/skip decisions).

... and so he did.
You download the latest Flashpipe, and you will have what you wanted.  (106)
I am the biggest KLUTZ there is with a lot of things, and if I can't mess it up, consider yourself safe from a falling sky, a tsunami, or a Tiramasu.  Grin

I have been uploading and downloading and side loading and diagonal loading. Not a miss in the whole shebang!

Enjoy.

The new version (106) skips duplicates as requested.  Many thanks, Mike!

I second that.
When I now use FlashPipe to update a folder of raw files on a back-up hard drive, and new or revised Qimage SE refinements have been made, only the "qrs" adjustment files are copied. If a raw image has been Refined for a second time, the new "qrs" file gets copied as (0001). This demonstrates that a "duplicate" has to be identical in every way, file name and bytes.

Terry, Ernest,
This feature makes Flashpipe a WOW! program for me.
As I believe I mentioned in some earlier post, I try to keep duplicated work in three places: On my everyday working C: drive using XP, my F:\ drive which is the Vista drive and last, my external drive.
Regardless if I am copying images from the card, I can place them in three locations, or copying from the XP drive where I have made all my enhancements, in a Flash, I have copied exactly the same work to three locations.

This is what I have started to do but for 2 locations.
When copying from hard drive to hard drive to update from the working HD, the settings required are different from those used for Flash card to hard drives; eg. no re-naming required, no sub-folder required.
I would be nice if I could save/recall the settings for the different situations. What do you think, is it feasible?

Not sure if it is needed considering the facility of Flashpipe.
You can easily make more rows with the TO locations that you need, and Flashpipe remembers it all even when you close, and reopen tomorrow.
Just shut the unneeded rows to OFF when not needed and with a click, turn them back on to 'live'.
