Mike,

Do you plan on replacing the Yahoo group emails with the forum?

Thanks!

I'm not ready to make that leap right now.  I want people to get some experience using the forums here and then we'll bring it up on the groups and see what people think.  Of course there are pros and cons of doing it one way or the other.

Hi Mike,
I would agree that this new forum will need a running-in period but it would be very convenient to have everything in one place.
This forum will be ideal for those subjects we had to designate as OT on the Yahoo groups  Smiley

However you decide to use this forum in the long term, I'm glad to have it. I've been a user of Qimage for a few years and see the forum posts every day and have found them informative and useful, though I've never posted myself. I look forward to reading the same quality of discussions here.

Mike,
Is there the opportunity to have a forum for "General Photographic discussion" outside of the Tech area.
Felt like posting a personal experience the other day, but it didn't fit into anything other than general chat of a non tech nature

Good idea.  I've renamed "General Tech Discussion" to "General Photography Discussion" to open it up to any type of photography talk.  Sometimes discussions will start out non-technical and get more technical as the thread progresses so I think it's a good idea to have a catch-all.  You'll find "General Photography Discussion" at the bottom of the "Technical Discussions" section.

Mike,
One little inconvenience with the forum is that although I can receive e-mail notifications of posts, the message always says "More topics may be posted, but you won't receive more email notifications until
you return to the board and read some of them."
Returning to the web pages is OK if you want to post a reply but a nuisance if you only want to keep up with new posts at that time.
Is there any possibility of this being changed?
Terry.

It's done that way so that you don't get an email for each response.  In popular threads, people may post 10 replies in an hour and I think most people will only want one email to tell them there is something new in that thread rather than getting 10 emails in an hour.  Since we have to cater to many different people, the way it is set up is probably the best way.  To be honest, I'm not sure I can change it anyway: I don't see any option related to that.

Mike
Just a suggestion
Have a maximum size and type of file that can be used for your Personalized Picture in your Profile.
Or did I not see it?

Mike,
I find the new forum very confusing with all the threads, posts and discussion groups. It was so much easier when I got an individual e-mail of each new posting to the forum. Within a couple of seconds I could see if the information was of interest to me and if it was I could easily drag the e-mail to a folder to keep for future reference, how do I do that now? Now I get an e-mail notification with no detail, telling me I have to go to the forum to read it, and if I don't I won't receive any more notifications. None of the other forums I subscribe to are that unfriendly. I much prefer to have an e-mail of each post, at least I know I won't miss anything. Please reinstate the e-mails posts. I feel like giving up on the forum. Having to keep entering the forum to find out the detail of every new "notification" is a real pain!

The e-mails I get have the text of the post  Huh?
If you go to the forum, at the very top of the page there's a link which says "show unread posts since last visit", that's very helpful to check the topics that are active.

It's really not that difficult nor is it a departure from many other forums on the internet.  Like anything else, it just takes a little getting used to.  Don't try to circumvent use of the forum by using the email/notify feature.  That's not what it is for.  All you have to do is click the "login" button and right under that you'll see "Show unread posts since last visit".  You can look at the subjects and see which you are interested in.  Also, it's not like everything is all over the place.  It is organized into meaningful sections and all the Qimage stuff is still in one place.  Also, instead of dragging an email to a folder when you see a subject you want to keep, just bookmark it!  I believe that addresses everything you mentioned: there's a (simple) way to do everything you mentioned as a concern.  It may not be the same way you've done it before, nor should it be: this is a forum and you've been using email... but the functionality and ease of use is there.
