Just started to come across WebP extension.
Seems to create problems, I can find only one prog on my comp. - Affinity - other than web browsers to open them.
Has the format any merit or is it just another compatibility problem.
I know it is supposed to give smaller file sizes but would be interested in a same image comparison.

At first, knowing you, it was an image (WEBP) of a spider urinating.
But I was curious. So I looked for 5 minutes and see that it is a Google creation.
I looked at some samples and great hullabaloo over this format seems to be the allegation that is saves space by making a smaller save with less loss. So I took a peek and noticed that the side by side comparison, jpg to jfif is smaller by byte size but a hunk of image is cropped off. To me that accounts for the smaller byte size. See Snaps. Right side 20% is missing?
The next thing I tried was to open it; very dicey to find a program that will open it.
Qimage, no!
So I renamed the .fif to .jpg, and guess what? Qimage sees it and for all intents and porpoises treats it same as a JPG.
So I wonder what Mike sees.
