1  Technical Discussions / Printers / Re: PRO-100 Odd reversal at bottom of step chart on: February 07, 2024, 06:18:36 PM
Thanks! I know it doesn't matter but it will probably bug me until I figure it out. One speculation is that the printer might avoid making a mess by limiting ink flow whenever it sees an RGB value of zero.
2  Technical Discussions / Printers / PRO-100 Odd reversal at bottom of step chart on: February 06, 2024, 09:23:39 PM
I was printing a color chart and step tablet and noticed that I couldn't see a difference between the last two dark steps of the tablet. When I looked closer under very bright illumination, the last step was actually slightly lighter then the next step. The RGB values were something like zero and maybe 8-12. Shining an LED flashlight through the paper, there's definitely less ink on the last step (that should be the darkest.) Paper is Red River UltraPro Gloss II with their profile (I think). Is this a profile issue or is there something else I should look at? It doesn't affect images because we're talking the blackest of the blacks, but it's also not the way things should be.

I may have missed it, but are you starting with RAW or jpegs? If RAW, you can set the defaults for how the image is initially processed.

5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Merry Christmas All! on: December 25, 2023, 11:48:23 PM
Title says it all. Once again I never made it to the store to get cards, so I made my own. As usual, Qimage did a great job.

AI Copilot is a great feature, thanks!
(the AI robot is a bit creepy but maybe that's a good thing- AI probably should stay a bit creepy for a while.  Wink )

Glad to hear it  Smiley I just figured the software was done- nothing left to improve!

So darn quiet around here. Missing Fred.

Had to print some stuff recently. Brought up Qimage and printed it. Great results and no drama. Just works.

2024? Heck, it's not even Halloween yet. Let's not put up the Christmas decorations too early!

So sorry. It was obvious from his posts what a great guy he was and I'll really miss seeing him here.

Don't make my brown eyes blue...
Now I'm really mystified- have to do some experiments this weekend.
Thanks- that's how I hoped Qimage worked but didn't try it with a full color shot.

Best,
Conrad
12  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Canon PRO-100; does Qimage override the driver B&W checkbox? on: July 13, 2023, 02:54:52 AM
Say I want to limit the printer to grey ink only. If I go into the driver and check the black and white print checkbox, will Qimage override that? I was printing a grey target and it came out an obvious brown tone. Hints, kinks or should I, in this odd case, just tell Qimage not to manage color?
13  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: dark prints on: May 23, 2023, 03:23:29 PM
If that test image is too dark, IMO you have to start there. Latest printer drivers, factory ink, known good paper profile. I use Red River and their profiles are generally very good. Forget about the monitor completely until printing works right. What light do you view your prints under? Hopefully others will have more suggestions.

The print is the reference but you need to know that the printing part of things is set up and working right. Download the test image here- https://www.lapseoftheshutter.com/printer-test-image/ and print it. Don't adjust it in any way, just print it. The site tells you what to look for, but it should basically look great. If that's the case, your monitor is likely too bright, though there could be other things wrong.

Don't seem to have an image that suits, but I do have-
HAPPY EASTER to everybody!
