Thnxs again!. Do you print on fine art matte papers as well? Papers with a more natural white (no whiteners and more “yellow”/ darker). What about monochrome images? Would it matter there? Well I guess I’ll just have to try and practice more.

Thank you very much Mike! That' s VERY useful information. Also a relief. I just tried getting an image in gamut (in Affinity Photo). Then exported to Qimage One. And...you' re right...the result on a Fine Art Hahnemuhle Bamboo paper is definitely (much) worse. Why use in gamut button at all, in that case? Such a button only for those rare cases?
I print somewhat serious since the beginning of this year. Love it! I really like the matte textured papers from Hahnemühle (Photo Rag/Museum Etching/Bamboo) Still learning about Relative Colorimetric and Perceptual. I know the theory behind it. I don' t think there's a general rule for using one over the other (every image needs a different approach ofcourse). But then again, I ' m not quite sure if there' s anything to say about glossy vs matte and the usage of Relative Colorimetric and Perceptual....in general :-) Thank you very much. I don' t think I' ll use that Out of Gamut button again.

Mike's Software / Qimage / QimageOne Soft Proofing question
|
on: December 24, 2020, 01:38:46 PM

Hello everyone. When soft proofing in Qimage One I can select "out of gamut" (when soft proofing). Then I see parts of the image where colours are out of gamut. So far so good.
But my question now is: Is it possible to make those colours IN gamut within Qimage One? The point is, that I do not use any Adobe products (no Lightroom or Photoshop anymore).
I' m using DXO PL4 as my main raw converter. No soft proofing in there.
For now the only possibility I see, is opening both DXO PL4 and Qimage One. And then, if there are any out of gamut areas in my image (showing in QimageOne).....go back to DXO PL....work on that (let' s say master)file...export again to Qimage One...and hope it' s in gamut (because I work " in the blind" in PL).... If not.....I have to do that same process again...and maybe again..... Not really a efficient workflow.
I hope there are other ways to do this.
Thank you for your advice!

Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Canon PRO-1000Qimage One Color Profile settings

Thank you Fred. I' m on Mac..so I use Qimage One.
1. I cannot highlight more than one. Even so, it' s not possible to delete . 2. In the Media tab Type I can see those Canon Fine Art designations, but also all the HFA (Hahnemühle) paper profiles...so many more than you probably. When I click on ICC Color Profile tab I can see what I described in my forst post AND the last paper (one) I used (Qimage One remembers last settings, as you know). Now if I choose " Choose a profile" (because I want to use another paper profile)...this new, small black screen opens...with tens of possibilities (and growing). From this list I cannot delete any (like I said).
I was able to choose any HFA (Hahnemuehle) paper profile just by clicking the "ICC Color Profile" tab. Like in Media Type tab, all these showed up the same way (as a list under this tab); no other black window opened. I would love to have this back again. Don' t know what (I) changed.

Mike's Software / Qimage / Canon PRO-1000Qimage One Color Profile settings
|

Hello. I also posted this question with the same title on DPR. No clear answer. Maybe someone here can help me?
I' m using Canon Pro-1000 printer and Hahnemühle Fine Art papers (also their ICC profiles) At the moment in Qimage One, under Media Type I can ofcourse choose Canon' s own Media types (like " Highest Density Fine Art Paper", and more), but also all HFA (Hahnemühle) settings (I have downloaded them form the Hahnemüle website). Until recently under "ICC Color Profile" in Qimage One, I could also choose from all Hahnemühle icc profiles directly (I could actually see them all when clicking in this window). A nice list rolled out under this window/tab. Now, doing the same, it gives me a choice:
Color management off
Let printer/driver manage color
Choose a profile
When I click on " Choose a profile" a new smaller black window opens. There I can see all profiles arranged by date and time. It looks like a history of when I used what profile. So, many profiles appear more than once and also "Selected profile" (see bottom of these images), are different; EITHER from /Library/Colorsync/profiles/etc. OR /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Resources/ICC Profiles/PRO-1000_series1/ etc. There are however profiles, that show up more than once or twice...sometimes even 3 or 4 times. All the same. Like I said, it looks like I have to select from history. The list is very long and starts to get longer and longer.
I have 2 questions.
1. How can I stop this list from getting longer and longer (can I remove some? How?)
2. (more important) How can I reset Qimage One, so that all ICC profiles from Hahnemühle automatically show when I click on the " ICC Color Profile" window (without having to choose between "Color management off / Let printer, driver manage color and Choose a profile"). I do not want this new window to open at all. I want HFA profiles (Hahnemuhle papers), to show up in a nice row UNDER "ICC Profile" in Qimage One, when I click on that. Just like it does when I click on "Media Settings".
Thank you very much!

Thanks you Fred! Do you have to keep your windows computer "On" ? And your printer? Can you safely shut them down (put "Off" ) while Qimage does its work? Or must you keep them "On" ?

Mike's Software / Qimage / Newbie questions
|

Hello everyone. As said in the title of this post, I' m totally new to this forum. I do not use Qimage One yet (on iMac here), but I plan to get it if/when I buy a new printer (probably the Canon Pro 1000). I' m a " experienced" amateur in photography, but so far haven' t done any serious printing myself (using pro labs instead). So now I would like to do all that printing myself. With all the good stories about Qimage, this really caught my interest. The more I read and see about it, the more I like it. The first questions here certainly are beginners questions, so I don' t think anyone has a problem answering (?).
I was looking into the purge sheets that Qimage can create ("on a schedule Qimage One can schedule the unclog pattern to be printed at a regular interval of your choosing" the website says). That sounds very nice (especially with a printer as the Canon Pro1000 I think. Might help saving some ink? Maybe someone has experiences here?).
My questions are: 1. Should I leave my printer "on" or "of" ....shut it down or not? Or just leave it like it is and it will run to sleep/idle? (ofcourse for Qimage to print its regular unclog pattern) 2. Can I safely shut down my iMac? Or should this also be kept on? (while Qimage works....ahum...I don' t think so...but not 100%sure)
Thank you very much!
