1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Soft proof paper checkbox? on: March 11, 2021, 04:37:58 PM
You can choose whether or not to simulate the paper white.  With the box unchecked, it doesn't try to simulate the white of the paper but instead uses the white point of your monitor.  If you check the paper box, it'll simulate the white of the paper (on your monitor).  Depending on the paper, checking that box can make the soft proof look a bit dull because your monitor may be able to produce a better white than the paper.

Regards,
Mike

Thank you, that makes sense!

I believe that's your switch. Want to see the print paper profile? On screen view?

Still don't get it, maybe it is my deteriorating 74 years old brain   Shocked

I do understand the BPC and Gamut switches, no problem there.

But the whole purpose of soft-proofing is to take the paper profile into account, isn't it?
3  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Soft proof paper checkbox? on: March 11, 2021, 11:17:35 AM
Just a question:

When I select Soft proof / print preview a 'paper' checkbox is shown (see attached screenshot).

I can't find what the purpose of this checkbox is, nor can I see the effect on the soft proof when I check or uncheck it.

Can someone please enlighten me?
4  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Print to file rendering intent question on: July 01, 2020, 06:36:25 PM
Thank you Fred and Mike for your ideas and shared wisdom.

I ordered a couple of proofs from the printlab which I received today.
They match what I see on screen, so everything works as it should.

Thanks again and best regards,

herman.
5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Print to file rendering intent question on: June 28, 2020, 10:30:53 AM
Hi all,

I am a long time user of Qimage.
Just had to create a new user on this forum as I changed ISP and have no longer access to my old mail address to recover the forum password.

Last week I noticed something I don't understand, I hope you guys can help me out.

I am using Qimage Ultimate v2020.120 which is the up-to-date version at the moment of writing.

I had to prepare a file for my local printlab.
As the image I had worked on did not have enough pixels for the required print size I used Qimage's Print to file to create an upscaled file.
As usual this works like a charm.

My settings for this print job are to use Printer Profile sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (RC, BPC).
I attach screenshots of the configuration windows.

When I look into the header information of the output file I see that the ICC-header Rendering Intent is set to Perceptual.
The print job however used Relative Colorimetric as Rendering Intent.
A file with the header information as produced by ExifTool is attached.

I don't know if the printlab will respect the rendering intent in the file, but, if they do, I would like the information in the file to correspond with my settings, in this case Relative Colorimetric.

Is there anything I can do to make the rendering intent in the output file match the one I selected for the print job?

Thanks in advance,

herman.
