1  Technical Discussions / Printers / Epson R1800 Profile for HP Everyday Matte on: July 28, 2013, 02:06:54 AM
I do a lot of my run of the mill printing on HP Everyday Matte paper.
(100 sheets per pack - inexpensive - relatively)

Anyone have  or suggest a profile for Epson R1800 printing on this paper ?

2  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Using Recovering Moving Old Windows XP Data From Another Drive Onto Windows 7 on: September 24, 2012, 09:57:34 PM
Its not as simple as just copying data over installation directory.
Now in Windows 7 there is 'Program Data' directory.
I have tried to merge folder for folder from the old XP program directory to the Windows 7 Program Data for Qimage.
Seems to be working as I can see my old print jobs & the Queue.
Shows some printer/driver errors I haven't resolved yet.
Nothing with computers is simple !

Thnx for the tip Fred.  But No Cigar !
The migrate utility allows you to select a Destination for the migrate;
but NOT the source.  So it only really allows me to move the the data existing
in the Win 7 Program Data for the fresh install of Qimage to another location.

I want to move it from my old D-Data area for Qimage to the C-Programs 'Program Data' area for Qimage in Win 7

Another suggestion ?  Does copying all the old D-data Qimage folders over the installation folder of Qimage data in Program Data area make sense ?
4  Mike's Software / Qimage / Using Recovering Moving Old Windows XP Data From Another Drive Onto Windows 7 on: September 03, 2012, 05:19:19 PM
Uh OH !  I may have outsmarted myself.  I ran on XP for years.  Concluded that my Raid Zero D-Data Drive was the place to put Qimage - and all its data for performance reasons.
After many months of messing around I now have a new Windows 7 system.  Without all XP's programs (@#$%^&*&&*!).  And a set of SSD's in Raid Zero as my C-Programs drive!
So I have to reinstall Qimage Pro.  But I want my old data back from its present unused home on D-Data.

Whats the best way of doing that. Getting my old data back to C-Programs drive so I have access to all my old saved jobs, etc.  ??
5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Processed Queue Session Save & Varying Image File Name Font Size on: October 16, 2011, 11:33:10 PM
I've just finished printing several dozen family pictures.

Two problems keep reoccurring in my workflow.
One - caused mostly by printers which have not sufficiently evolved as to be totally reliable.
My R1800 continues to eject blank paper causing media load errors and requiring me to stand over said printer feeding the spit out paper back in & back in & back in  . . .  until it loads properly & Qimage/the spooler continues.  Every now & then something goes totally foobar & I have to cancel the job and recall & reprocess the Queue - that I fortunately saved after having been down this road many times before.  However - it must be 're-processed' - a computer wheel spin that takes a torrible period of time on my ancient PC.
This is all happening on Qimage Pro.  Question - does Q Ultimate have a 'processed session' save/autosave feature to save me some time getting to the physical print point ?

The other problem is that I periodically print images from different sources - family, cameras, sizes, etc.  I typically print 4 X 2 on 8 1/2 X 11 & put a small version of the file name - the date & time of the photo from a program called Stamp - at the bottom right of the photo so that a picture given to someone can be recreated from that info.  However - I find that Qimage changes the font size markedly up & down based on I guess image source size.  All I want is the same size font for the file name across varying source size pictures; but roughly the same size prints.  Question - has Q Ultimate solved this problem ?

Speaking of speed & performance; Does it not make sense to print 'Landscape'
for whole page 8 1/2 X 11 printing to reduce form feeds & use wide carriage on R1800?

PS - I still think it would be more efficient workflow to - optionally - auto recall job queue
on Qimage restart.

lay off the FW. It has issues with certain types of printing jobs.

Thnx Fred.  Think I will take the hint & stay on USB.

Guess that just proves my conclusion from many years dealing with computers.
Hardware manufacturers should leave software to software manufacturers.

PS - The main reason I am repeatedly reloading the queue is printer problems on my Epson R1800
that prints half pages & spits out the remainder of the paper stack until Media Error !!  Grrrr !

Uh Oh. This is starting to look like an Epson Driver problem !

OK.  I've tried Standard text printing.  Works OK.  Tried Epson Easy Print.  Same problem - prints partial image
& then spits out paper until stack empty.  Then tried changing port to USB & adding USB cable connection.
Eureka! Works OK.  But I used to run Qimage & Firewire/IEEE1394 just fine.  I also reloaded
drivers to get latest version prior to all of this (12332/6.52).  A Google search for 1800/1394 print problems came up with
a comment that Epson has dropped 1394 support !!!  Anyone know anything about this?  Are you using an
Epson R1800 with IEEE1394?  Which drivers? If its true I guess the solution is to go Backwards to previous drivers !

My main motivation for IEEE1394 is my understanding that IEEE1394 is a little faster than USB 2.
(My system is PC/2.6GhZ/4GB/1TB/WinXP-Pro)

Sorry Art, not all of us would want that, certainly not reload on start up  Wink
A prompt to save would be useful!

Understand this might not be the preference of others - or even myself when I (eventually!)
get a clean run on the job I'm working on; but an option would be nice to smooth out the
workflow while working on one job, like  a couple of Prefs . . .

Auto Save Queue Job on Exit ? Y/N
Auto Reload Queue on Restart ?  Y/N

Or something that satisfies both situations.

PS - The main reason I am repeatedly reloading the queue is printer problems on my Epson R1800
that prints half pages & spits out the remainder of the paper stack until Media Error !!  Grrrr !

Most folk concerned with long term digital archives (USA gov, for example http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/formats/intro/intro.shtml  ) prefer tiff images.

I know very little about raw & not much more about archiving - but have I not read that DNG
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Negative_%28file_format%29
is an up & coming lossless 'standard' for archiving ?  The US govt not withstanding !!
11  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Qimage Not Keeping Queue On Program Restart on: July 07, 2010, 06:10:44 PM
Fred - Thnx for reply - Clear Queue prevents clearing after print - but Does Not retain
the queue upon program restart.  I have to recall the previous saved version as you suggested.
I just want to short circuit the step of Recalling.  Additionally, as minor tweaks are made I end up
with many variations of the saved version - if I'm religious enough to save each try.
I'd rather have Q auto save queue & auto reload upon program restart.  Then save final version
when I finally get it right/fix/kick/drop/buy another printer/etc.!
12  Mike's Software / Qimage / Qimage Not Keeping Queue On Program Restart on: July 07, 2010, 05:23:29 PM
I often set up a multi page Queue & start printing.
Then the printer jams/prints wrong colour/takes a nap/etc.;
and I have to cancel & restart the job - perhaps with modified settings;
and perhaps tomorrow after I start up Qimage again.

Way back when it used to retain the same Queue upon restart.
Now it doesn't.  And I have to make sure I save Queue - before printing.

Am I missing it?  Is there a way to force Q to save queue & bring it up
again automatically upon program restart ?  Looked in Prefs but didn't see it ....
13  Mike's Software / Qimage / Qimage Processing Speed on: June 05, 2010, 07:41:41 PM
My Qimage processing speed seems to have increased markedly.

I have 26 pages of 4 X 4 on 8 1/2 X 11 & its been processing 2.5 hrs
and is only 25% done !!  Yesterday 16 pages took ALL DAY - abt 10hrs.

What are the factors influencing processing speed & how can I speed it up !

I have a 2.6Ghz P4 CPU, 4GB & I run Qimage on a RAID 0 disk set.

My memory is that it used to be substantially faster.

What's go'in on ?!
14  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: ICC Input Profiles for Scanned Negatives on: June 02, 2010, 01:25:39 AM
Thnx  Fred.  Ok Tried that.  Now am into 'the Greens' - as in green cast.
Have narrowed it down to the Monitor ICM.  When its OFF - no green cast.
When its ON/Set - Green Cast.  I set it to 'DELL_U2410.icm' that comes with
the monitor - which supposedly is delivered 'calibrated'.
Another confusing problem is that I must View-Rebuild Thumbs to reflect the
latest settings - They don't change real time !

However - no matter what the Monitor Profile or the affected images on screen,
the printed pics are unaffected by its setting.  It just throws you - until you see
the print or preview in an unaffected colour.

So I will press on.  Adjusting images with filters as required & printing.

A question - noticed the R1800 in your screen shot - what is the latest driver
supposed to be ?   In the printer setup-properties-maintenance mine shows 6.52.

15  Mike's Software / Qimage / ICC Input Profiles for Scanned Negatives on: June 01, 2010, 08:55:29 PM
I have several hundred Vuescan scanned via Epson 4990 colour 35mm negatives
of various cropped sizes from various years and on various film types with various colour casts.

I have set my Dell U2410 monitor ICC & my Epson R1800 printer ICC.

But I am stumped as to what to set the Qimage Edit-Preferences-Color Management Input EXIF/X/Y/ICC.

As far as I know (how do I tell ??) there is no ICC Profile attached to the scanned negs.

The main reason I am asking this is that my printed pics are  all blown out & pink-rosy !

Any tips/guidelines/links appreciated.
