Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Format of file sent to the printer

Thanks for your response,
I guess my question was not worded properly. What format does Qimage use when it sends a file to the print driver? Does Qimage convert the raw file to either jpeg or tiff format before sending to the print driver.

Thanks so much. I did not realize that was the default choice. Seems that whenever I am trying to set up a new computer things do not go smoothly. Glad I waited for your reply before reinstalling the print drivers and software.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / New Computer Epson SC P900
|
on: April 17, 2023, 11:53:37 PM

I just installed Qimage Ultimate on a new computer. When I go to properties and set the print quality and then click ok, the setting goes back to 5 whenever I check it again. Any idea what might be causing the problem. I suppose that I could try uninstalling and reinstalling the Epson drivers and software. I did try reinstalling Qimage, but that made no difference. Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Can Qimage be made more robust
|
on: December 23, 2022, 09:18:41 PM
|
I find as others have stated that Qimage Ultimate is very good for printing, but I never know when it is going to crash or lockup. When that happens I have to resort to using the windows task manager to kill the qimage process. Here are a few of the problems I have encountered.
12/2/22 Stopped working could not exit. Got out of bounds error. – had to be cancelled with windows task manager
12/2/22 Later I/O error 123 – had to be cancelled with windows task manager
12/8/22 C:\ProgramDAta\ddisoftware\Qimage\redo.ses could not be saved - write access denied – had to use task manager to exit
12/23/22 Access violation at address 00F9850 in module Qimage.exe Read of address 4589575B Needed to use task manager to exit Qimage.
In the last case I was using print to file to an image that was open in Photoshop. That probably caused the error, but it would be great if Qimage would handle this and the other problems more gracefully.
It is best for programs not to lock up on errors, but instead give the user an understandable error message allowing the user to correct the problem and then continue. I realize that this happens occasionally with any complex software, but not as often as it does with Qimage.
Most modern compilers give the programmers methods for catching and handling errors when a program is running.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Re: Error Handling

Thanks for your reply. I will come up with a list of problems as they occur. A while back I had a filter file that some how became corrupted. Every time I tried to load it the program would crash instead of indicating an error with the file. In the end, I compared that file with a working filter file using the vim editor, and was able to correct the glitch. Next time Ultimate crashes, I will be careful to document how that happen. I'll keep a list and forward that to you.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Screen background color
|
on: October 08, 2022, 09:22:05 PM
|
Is there a way to set the screen background color on Ultimate? On the computer I normally, use it is gray but on a new installation it is black. Is there anyway to set the color on the new installation so that it matches the gray screen background?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Error Handling
|
on: October 08, 2022, 09:07:41 PM

I have used Qimage for many years and my main complaint is its lack of robust error handling and feedback.
I would like to see some effort put into improving the error handling of Qimage Ultimate. When I sometimes make a mistake the program will just lock and I have to use the task manager to kill it. It would be much better if additional error handlers were include to catch a user's mistake and provide some feedback so the user will be informed of what went wrong. In addition, it would be very helpful if loading a corrupted file were handled in a more robust manner. In the past, on an earlier version I had a corrupted filter file that caused the program to crash. After look at the filter with a text editor and comparing to one that was not corrupted it was relatively easy to catch and fix the error.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Problem print to Epson P900

Thanks so much for you feedback. The printer was originally working but then the next day when I used Qimage it seemed to work fine but the printer didn't print. I did reinstall the Epson driver and the printer is now working with Qimage. I am just concerned that I will have the problem again.
One addition question: I notice in windows settings I have the choice of using either winprint as the print processor or Epson SC-P900 series. Do you have a recommendation?

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Problem print to Epson P900
|
on: August 22, 2022, 02:13:48 AM

I've just installed an Epson P900 using Windows 10. I've had problems printing directly from Qimage Ultimate with the latest version. I am not using a plug-in, and the printer is connect by an Ethernet cable. After working for a day the next day after Qimage sent output to the P900, the printer just kept saying receiving data, but no print. I was able to print with no problem using different programs such as Power Point. I reinstalled the Epson drivers and the printer is now printing images from Qimage. I am wondering if anyone else had had this problem, and how did you deal with it?
