46  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Best way to set up multiple images & photo mats? on: March 04, 2015, 05:30:52 PM
Thanks, Fred. I had been using the "Grow mats around print" setting all along, which is one of the things that puzzled me.

The extra thick black border along on the tops of my images is intentional, not a glitch, so I haven't needed to use the little mat button that makes all sides even.

Sometimes when trying to edit an existing mat that was off centre in relation to an image, or the wrong dimensions, or rotated from the way I wanted, entering in 1" at the top and .2" on the other 3 sides resulted in 1" on one side and .2" on the top and remaining sides. Other times it worked as expected. I have been assuming that the mat edit window makes changes in relation to the image's native orientation, yes?

I have been working in the Page editor all along. Sometimes I resorted to entering dimensions numerically, with mixed success; a few times I'd enter my desired print dimensions, only to have them rest to something completely different.

All images are @ the same resolution; crop is not on.

One of my challenges was that the 2nd set of images have slightly different dimensions than the 1st, though they share the same orientations, so the reimporting required repeated tinkering. I've finished printing my total of 80 images now and will see if the Image orientation lock or Freehand mode makes any difference next time I attempt something like this. Maybe that was the root of my issues.
47  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Best way to set up multiple images & photo mats? on: March 03, 2015, 07:13:13 PM
I want to print multiples of 6 images of my wife's in two batches of 3 of the images that fit across the width of the 17" canvas roll. She will be cutting each out and folding/gluing the top edge over dowels, so I'm using the photo mat feature to enable her to achieve a bleed/trim effect with black "frames" around each image. It took me a long time to set up the first print job (see pic).

Trying to create the second print job with the second set of three images by dragging thumbnails over the first set of image file names in the print queue is probably better than starting from scratch. However, the newly imported images are often rotated.  That's not that big a deal. What's odd is trying to rotate an image 90 degrees left and finding it sometimes rotates 90 degrees right instead.

My biggest trouble has been attempting to adjusting a photo mat size only to find the image inside it resized or rotated, or the mat dimensions on the wrong axes in relation to the image; trying to delete a photo mat sometimes brings up a size error, even though there's lots of room; copying and pasting images to repeat them does not work consistently ... all sorts of mayhem. But maybe I'm doing something wrong, or expecting too much. Any tips?
Thanks.

Thanks, Mike. I unchecked the "Optimize Enlargement" box and that seems to have fixed the issue. I didn't think it could be global printer driver settings, because it was only affecting certain letter size jobs, not others, and none of the jobs I have saved for 17" roll paper.
49  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Wrong paper size error, colour shift & clipping on: August 10, 2014, 03:55:40 PM
I'm experiencing a puzzling problem. My Epson 4000 has always been very fussy & cranky loading letter size Epson Enhanced Matte paper, e.g. frequent messages saying "Reload" if it didn't exit the tray and end up exactly square under the printer head. But now I'm getting a "Wrong paper size" error on certain saved letter size jobs, even though the job is set up for letter size paper. Worse, the printed image is ending up off-centre and misplaced from its Qimage position on the page, sometimes clipped, and with the colour shifted significantly.

At first I thought I had a weird nozzle clog, but after printing several sheets with exactly the same weird colour, and after having it happen to a second image, I realized something else must be happening. It is not happening to all letter size jobs I've saved, but I haven't had time to test them all.

http://www.claireart.ca/wrong-page-errors.pdf shows two prints on letter size sheets where this is happening, and the Qimage settings I'm using.

My friend's mountain landscape image file is a 10.8 MB Tiff (LZW) @ 240 ppi. My wife's piano image is a 3.93 MB Tiff (LZW) @ 300 ppi. I have printed much larger, more layered files with alpha channels etc., so can't imagine this is a memory issue or corrupt image file, plus it's repeating. Any thoughts?

I went through this recently & am still working out a few issues. I was able to transfer my saved Jobs, but had to rebuild them one by one to reload the custom Epson/paper ICC profile and reset the page sizes, print quality, etc. Also had to relink the thumbnails. What helped was keeping my original XP installation on my old machine (disconnected from internet and network) and running it concurrently with the new machine's installation to verify each job's settings.

51  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: cropping issue after XP->W7 transition on: July 09, 2014, 09:42:11 PM
Thanks, Fred. In my transition from XP to W7 I updated image paths and paper settings. The W7 driver for the Epson 4000 seems significantly different from the XP driver, and it's possible I tweaked something inadvertently, such as the Expansion settings (which I set to Retain Size after printing an image that was 5.125" inches wide instead of 5"). I don't remember that in XP, but maybe it was there all along :-o

My Epson 4000 Page Layout properties look identical to yours, i.e. no checks on the left side, except I had unchecked Optimize Enlargement (fearing it might override Retain Size!). I have rechecked it now on the assumption that is just my own paranoia.

It's a mystery to me as to why Qimage is not reading my printable area as 11 x 8.5. So I just tried a little toggle test:
When I change "Paper Tray (Borderless)" to "Paper Tray", Qimage reads the printable area as 8.266" x 10.333", which seems to be what's being used when I have it set to Borderless, i.e. the printer is clipping a portion of the image at the bottom of my page.. The weird thing is that changing it back to  "Paper Tray (Borderless)" it now displays as 8.498 x 10.998.

I was hoping that this might have solved my problem, but it's still clipping the bottom 1/8" of my image/text, which is 17/32" from the bottom edge of the paper. Puzzling.
52  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / cropping issue after XP->W7 transition on: July 09, 2014, 07:22:44 PM
After updating from XP to Windows 7 I'm encountering an issue trying to print a 5" x 10" image with some text below it on letter sized paper. This saved job used to print perfectly under XP. Now the last few millimetres of the image are not printing, as if I was not using borderless settings, yet I do have the driver set to borderless, and Auto Crop is set to On. What am I missing here?
See http://www.claireart.ca/sunset1.jpg and http://www.claireart.ca/sunset2.jpg for screenshots (having trouble uploading via the forum today).
Thanks.

53  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Ideal location for Saved jobs folders on: June 12, 2014, 08:33:37 PM
My preferred location C:\Users\Public\ddisoftware\Qimage folders is not on a network or external location, it's on my main drive, but I will heed your sage advice, Fred.
Thanks.
54  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Ideal location for Saved jobs folders on: June 11, 2014, 11:46:56 PM
Thanks, Fred. I did use this feature successfully when backing up my original Qimage files on my old XP machine. I will make the C:\Users\Public\ddisoftware\Qimage folders my default location.

Since Qimage.exe is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Qimage-U, I trust it will then be ok to delete all the ddisoftware sub-folders located C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware, yes?
55  Mike's Software / Qimage / Ideal location for Saved jobs folders on: June 11, 2014, 09:52:31 PM
I've nearly completed my transition from XP Pro 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit Pro and have nearly finished updating all my saved print jobs to account for different file paths and a 64 bit Epson printer driver.

For a while I was having trouble accessing some print jobs I had previously saved in two different folders. These folders showed up in Windows Explorer under C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage\Save, but I couldn't access them when I used Qimage Ultimate's Recall -> Select/Browse folders. Then I realized that this a Windows 7 thing, i.e. there are also Qimage files over in C:\Users\Public\ddisoftware\Qimage\Save.

I have now copied over my updated job files to that location and have started updating the few remaining files in the additional folders under \Save.

My question is, Which is the best location to keep these files? And if the C:\Users\Public\ddisoftware\Qimage\Save location is preferable to C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage\Save, can I safely delete the entire Save folder (or anything else?) under C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage?

Thanks.

56  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Interpolation settings changed on: April 23, 2014, 06:06:48 PM
Now I see how the print driver affects the PPI settings the Qimage :-o Also, that the paper choice affects how high the quality settings can go. I'm printing on Epson Enhanced Matte paper (for which I bought a custom colour profile after printing a target, sending it off for photospectrometer, etc. etc.) which seems to have an upper limit lower than your super photo paper. But what I see in Qimage is closer to what I had before, so my workflow should be much the same as it was under Windows XP. When I print some test proofs I will find out how closely they match my previous output.

Thanks again for your help!

Thanks, Fred, you are correct as usual, I did have to install a new Epson driver. Will tinker today and let you know what happens.
58  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Interpolation settings changed on: April 23, 2014, 02:10:10 AM
I'm in the process of transferring & verifying job settings from my long time installation on a desktop running XP Pro SP3 to a newer machine running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I just noticed a difference, though, and wonder if it might cause any potential pitfalls:

When I click the little round blue Prints icon in Job Properties, the Interpolation window pops up and displays a Maximum value of 175 ppi instead of the 360 ppi it used to be on the old machine for Normal Prints. Apart from the Posters showing the same lower maximum ppi, all other settings in that window are the same. I will post a picture of the current settings.

Should I find a way to increase these settings back up to 360 ppi, or does it not really matter?

59  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Searching for saved printer page sizes on: April 13, 2014, 03:57:32 AM
Now reinstalled under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with Epson's version 6.50 driver and updating to Qimage Ultimate version qu14-210.exe. The red X's are gone from my job files, which makes me think my older PC that was running XP was getting a little buggy.

I copied my old Save and Log folders into C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage\Save, but also saw them in C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage\Save and C:\Program Files (x86)\Qimage-U. (see attached) I guess that's a Windows 7 thing; just went through reinstalling Eudora 7 and encountered similar split file folder placements.

I am wondering again how to import my set of custom User Defined paper sizes now that the printer driver has changed... I have a sinking feeling I may have to copy them manually one at a time from Qimage on my old XP machine before I install Ubuntu on that PC.
60  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Searching for saved printer page sizes on: April 08, 2014, 05:46:27 AM
An experiment: I created a new User Defined paper size via Qimage Ultimate on my older computer and saved it. Then did a search of my drive for any files created in the last 24 hours, and sorted them by time/date. I copied over onto the newer computer all the ones selected, and all but the Qimage Prefetch file highlighted over-wrote the existing files. That file gave me an in-use kind of error. But voilą, my paper sizes are back!

I don't understand why I have red X's on my .job files, and they may be the reason I am finding that I'm not able to recall all my saved jobs completely. But having the older version of Qimage gives me something to mirror as I migrate and rebuild my saved job folder.
