61  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Searching for saved printer page sizes on: April 08, 2014, 05:17:47 AM
PS my driver versions are both the same (5.52, from 2006) on the old instance of the Epson 4000 on the older computer and in the new instance of the Epson 4000 installed on the newer computer.

I compared Printer Test Pages from both machines and tried overwriting the .dll, .exe, .prm, .cfg, .dxt and .dat files that it said the driver was using in the new C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 from the older machine's Windows System folder. All were identical.

Searching by date modified, I couldn't find any other files in the old Windows System folder that might be associated with the Epson 4000 and which might contain more recent User Defined paper sizes that I created in the last few years.
62  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Searching for saved printer page sizes on: April 08, 2014, 01:47:01 AM
I'm moving Qimage Ultimate from an older PC to a newer PC. Copied old C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ddisoftware\Qimage from old PC to newer PC and edited some of the Saved job files in Notepad to update image paths. (I also know that it's possible to drag a current image file onto a red hatched preview rectangle if a job shows up with a "missing" image file.) So far, so good.

However, on the new installation, I'm not able to access my old roll paper User Defined sizes, e.g. a 17x22 inch roll paper job shows up previewed on Letter Size paper and my old roll paper User Defined sizes don't appear in the drop-down menu of the printer/page setup.

I notice that there are Xs on all my *.job file icons, but the same issue appears on the old machine, yet Qimage Ultimate was functioning fine on it. I wonder if I just need to locate the roll paper User Defined sizes? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Windows XP Pro SP3 (until later tonight, if I can resolve this issue, then on to Windows 7 on the new machine and Ubuntu on the older PC ;-)

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions, and sorry for the delay in replying - was out of town for an exhibition. Will do some tinkering and see what happens.
(and yes, the image is semi-abstract.)

I've had this print job set up for 3 years. It's a landscape format image that I've had set rotated 90 degrees for a letter size sheet in portrait mode, with a title and the artist's name below the image. Paper tray setup as borderless, but deselecting that doesn't change anything.

Since upgrading to Ultimate, I've had some issues with my Maxtor USB drive where most of my images have resided. I've been gradually transfering them over to a hard disk and when the thumbnail appeared with its crisscross red lines, I changed the path to the new one. In the past with QImage, this manoeuver always worked. But for some reason the re-linked thumbnail ends up @ 180 degrees to what it used to be. I suppose I could rotate the image 180 degrees in Photoshop and see if it then corrects the thumbnail, but that's a klunky kind of workaround.

Will attach a couple of screen shots.

Recently upgraded to Ultimate and mostly v happy, thanks. Having a bit of trouble, though, with some old saved jobs in which I've moved the linked image file to a new drive and it now imports 180 degrees the wrong way. When I try to use the Set Rotation tool in Edit Page, nothing happens and the little rotation icon is not appearing. I'm probably missing something v obvious, but I'd love to know how to unlock the image. (No, the Image Lock button has not been pressed.)

Thanks!
I've done this on occasion and held my breath in the hopes that the image would be scaled and positioned correctly on the page. If I recall correctly, it always worked. Analagous to relinking to a missing image in Quark, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.

You are probably right ;-)

When I do so, I'll do a fresh install on my newer machine which is faster & has more memory.
Of course this will require editing the paths in all my saved jobs to match new drive names, something I've been avoiding! If I recall correctly, I can do this via Notepad.

Thanks, Fred - much appreciated. I believe my last version was v2010.209 and I realize Mike hasn't been updating Studio for some time.

Strangely, the program is running ok today; I tried loading it "Safe Mode" (Shift-click-program-icon) and though I couldn't tell if it was indeed in Safe Mode, it printed the large layered PSD that seemed to be causing trouble yesterday. Intermittent problems are always the hardest to troubleshoot!

My QImage Save folder is showing some files with X's in their icons, which might explain something (see screen shot here: http://www.claireart.ca/QImage_Save_folder1.jpg).

Will check for viruses or malware, though I think those are unlikely culprits since I dedict this older PC to my Epson printing and almost never launch a browser from it, except to check for updates; don't do any email on it, either.

Might just have to do a lot of decluttering, deleting old files, free up more space and memory, and perhaps delete possibly corrupted qimage.ini, qimagepr.ini, icm.ini and sizes.ini files.

Last week I updated my trusty, previously stable Studio Edition to v2010.210 and ever since I've had sluggish performance, I/O errors when recalling jobs with layered PSD files (e.g. 89 MB size), "unable to load file ... aborted" messages, and crashes.
Running Win XP SP3, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM.
Wondering if I should revert to the previous version or -- ?
70  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: How to save job settings & reset paths to picture files when upgrading PC on: September 22, 2009, 03:47:58 PM
Thanks, Fred - much appreciated. I did know I can reletter drives; just wasn't sure if there might be hidden associations that might interfere with Qimage's (Studio Edition) access to the image files or the crops, etc. Your workaround is what I was looking for.

71  Mike's Software / Qimage / How to save job settings & reset paths to picture files when upgrading PC on: September 22, 2009, 01:42:43 AM
I am in the middle of a transition from my older PC desktop tower to a new, faster machine. Currently I use Qimage (ver. 2009.269) to print image files that are located on two hard drives in the older machine plus one external USB drive. The two machines will be networked under XP Pro SP3.

I would like to reinstall Qimage on the newer machine to print from it instead of using something like Windows Remote Desktop to print from the older machine. However, I am wary of breaking Qimage's paths to the image files and folders, thereby disrupting my job settings in the event that the new machine renames the various drives where the image files reside. Or if I move some of the image file folders to the new machine for faster access.

I notice that if I move an image file from the original folder and path that Qimage has saved as part of its job settings to a new location, there's no prompting for the missing file, just the red cross-hatched rectangle. And if I navigate to the file's new location and place it on my layout, the job settings seem to be reset.

Is there anything in Qimage that's analogous to what happens when folders or paths are changed in a program like QuarkXPress or InDesign, e.g. the program alerts the user to a missing file or link so it's possible to navigate to the file, reload or refresh it, and then voila, it reappears in its sized format and location on the page? (Quark will also proceed to say that "additional files are in this folder - do you want to update them?" which saves repeating the task again and again for a group of image files that have been moved.

If I reimport job settings from my old machine and place them in the appropriate folder on the new machine, can I re-link the image files without affecting the job settings? (a bit tedious, but not as bad from starting from scratch!) Or do I in fact need to start over on the new machine?
Thanks.
