Technical Discussions / Printer Media / Epson stylus 2100 Ink Type Question
|
on: December 27, 2021, 01:48:36 PM
|
Hi all
I have an old Epson Stylus 2100 Printing I am thinking of returning to service but will need to get some new ink.
To keep costs down I was thinking of either going down the refillable cartrige or CIS route and have been looking online for some options, but there I found some confusing information.
The 2100 IIRC used Pigment based inks, but all the supplies I have found that still list this older model seem to offer the inks in a choice of Pigment or Dye.
So the question is if I am correct that the ink supplied by Epson is Pigment inks is it safe to use Dye inks and if it is OK why would you use one over the other, apart from cost with the Dye inks being cheaper than the pigment option.
Thanks for any help with my confusion.

Technical Discussions / Computer Hardware / SSD Drives how much quicker should the boot time be
|
on: July 25, 2017, 02:14:21 PM
|
Hi all
The only issue i have with my PC is the very slow boot time and was wondering if replacing the SATA3 boot drive with a SSD drive would speed things up a worthwhile amount.
My current PC specs are Intel i7 3.4ghz processor with 16gb ram and 2TB SATA3 boot drive. I am running Windows 10 64bit.
Current boot time, times from power button press to end of HD activity is currently 5 minutes, there are a couple of software applications slowing things down a bit, like the datacolor Spyder software which delays loading the Display profile until most other drivers and devices have loaded but without them the boot time is still around 4 minutes, which seems an eternity when I am sat here waiting.
So was thinking of adding a SSD drive to use as the boot drive as I understand they are much quicker, but are they quicker at boot time or just in general use. if they are quicker at boot time how much could I expect it to boot quicker.
Thanks in advance for any input on this

Hi all
The last update for Profile prism was v8.43 released: Aug 7, 2014
Did it reach perfection on that release or is it now a dead no longer supported application.
Thanks for any info on this

I notice that there have been no updates to Profile Prism for a year now, is this because its now as good as it can ever get or because its been pushed to the back burner and forgotten about.

Technical Discussions / Printers / Epson 1500W Colour Gamut ?
|
on: March 02, 2015, 07:51:04 PM
|
Hi all
Anyone know what colour gamut the Epson 1500W can print to.
I know it's a low end printer so suspect it's not up to matching ProPhoto, but does it come anywhere near Adobe1998 or would a printer at that end of the quality range only manage something closer to sRGB.
I have a fully profiled system and the results look to be a very good match to my monitor but that only covers sRGB so I suspect the printer is also only just covering sRGB as the results are so close.
Am I correct or should the printer cover a wider colour gamut.
I have searched Epsons site and googled this but found no information suitable to this printer.
Thanks for any help with this

Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: IT8 SCAN saved as TIFF vs JPG
|

Hi
I would suggest that if possible you use Vuescan instead of Epson scan, Vuescan does a much better RAW Scan than Epson Scan.
Also try both the standard and Bright test image as that depends on the printer driver rather than the scanner software.
I have two Epson Printers an old R360 and a new 1500w and both needed the bright target to produce a readable patch target.
The downside is that you do have to use the paid for version of vuescan just to test it as it watermarks the scans until you enter a valid serial number.

Technical Discussions / Computer Hardware / Plustek 8200i film Scanner resolution Question
|
on: November 01, 2014, 01:04:21 PM
|
Hi all
A quick question, I hope
I have a plustek 8200i Film scanner which the makers claim has a resolution of 7200dpi, but when I use the Supplied Silverfast software that claims the maximum resolution is 3600dpi with a recommended resolution of 2400dpi.
Anyone know what the true optical resolution of this scanner is.
Thanks

Mike's Software / Profile Prism / What software when profiling an Epson 4490 Scanner
|
on: September 11, 2014, 01:32:31 PM
|
Hi all
A quick question, "I Hope"
When profiling my Printers i use Vuescan software with my Epson 4490 Scanner and get excellent results.
What about when I Profile the scanner is vuescan still the way to go or should I just use Epson scan with the recommended setting, as unlike for Printer Profiling there is no mention of using Vuescan in the instructions.
If Vuescan is the way to go what settings should I use, the same as when printer profiling or something else.
Thank for any help with this

Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: New Profiles with 8.4

Same here profiling my old Epson R360, got results that are now better than I get with SpyderPrint and its so much quicker than reading all those patches one at a time with SpyderPrint.
Well done Mike

Technical Discussions / Computer Software / Re: sRGB or AdobeRGB when home printing, which is best
|
on: July 20, 2014, 11:21:26 AM

Hi
Thanks for the reply
At the moment I am shooting in JPEG and have the camera set to AdobeRGB
I edit in Photoshop and have that set to AdobeRGB
I print on an Epson Printer and that is also set to AdobeRGB
I also have an Epson Scanner and that is also set to AdobeRGB
There is so much confusion in the internet about this subject that I was just wondering if I have gone down the correct route for home printing would I be better off just using sRGB for everything or am I doing it correctly by going down the AdobeRGB route.
I don't e.mail photos or use any web based printer or display services, its all Camera, Process & Print and all in house.
Thanks
paul
