Mack,

Your step 1)  (of post 1) are you assigning or converting the colour space when you are saving the image?

Maybe been more exciting if Fred had said 'cup of tea and a tart'?

from Oxford English Dictionary - whelm = engulf, submerge.
from elsewhere - gruntle =  the suffix -le was once a diminutive marker, the original meaning was "to grunt a little, make a small grunt", the sort of sound piglets would make. (In fact, gruntling has served as the term for a piglet in the past.) In this meaning, gruntle was first printed around 1400. Apparently, the prefix dis- was added toward the end of the 17th century to make the intransitive verb transitive. Now writers are taking it off again. The root, grunt, is thought to have an onomatopoetic or imitative origin.

Nowt queer bout the English language, just the folk who use it...

Maybe you could start a section here, in the qi forum, wrt migrating to qi from ps and lesser software. Then, those using qi who are present on other fora could direct the unwise to said section.

Hi John,

Fotospeed used to supply canon printers, probably still do. If you buy your paper from them, they will do an icc profile for you - used to be at no charge. If they can  not offer a solution/reason for the wide borders, then you could select a paper size/type that works for that paper size, without the margin, and let them provide the profile (You download a file, print it (write down the exact printer settings) post back the print, and they will email the profile to you.

Phone them up, and have a chat, or pay them a visit, if you can.

Best Wishes,

Ray

Hi Larry,

I've just looked up some info re. your scanner - http://www.photo-i.co.uk/Reviews/interactive/Epson%204870/page_12.htm
It has a florescent tube, and they do deteriorate, as Terry mentioned. However, there are plenty of settings in the driver, and you may be able to get results that are good enough for use in pp. In any case you can edit the profile afterwards.

Ray

Hi Box,

I would suggest you don't try to be a smart ass  Roll Eyes . The printer has specified what they want to produce the quality of images they produce. Do what they ask, anything else is likely to be a screw up, and it will be your fault. If you think that 300dpi etc. can be improved, then either phone/contact the printer and discuss options with them, or find another printer who will be prepared to spend time fiddling with images. Sharpness isn't everything Grin

(Basically, I'd  repeat what Jamie said.. but a tad more brusquely Cheesy)

Best wishes,

Ray

Hi Fred,

I told you to download that software back in 2010. Grin You should have done it then  Roll Eyes However, the link is worth repeating.

I expect when your printer gives the next waste ink error, you'll need to change the pad - just a few screws, and drain off the ink, else you'll be in a real mess. (afaik, the waste ink pad needs changing after the second reset message, the first is just to generate a few dollars for the dealer to reset it).

13  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Deep Focus Sharpening plug in for Photoshop? on: March 23, 2013, 03:08:21 PM
Hi,

It will never happen!

Adobe do not ask others to write plug-ins. However, they may promote other author's plug-ins, but most likely they will include the technique in their core programs, if they think it adds anything to their software. A bit of effort is required to write plug-ins http://www.photoshoproadmap.com/Photoshop-blog/programming-photoshop-plugins/  and most likely the juice is not worth the squeeze. Lightroom never used to run plug-ins, but there were ways around that - not sure of the situation now (I remember something on one of the NAPP web-casts about that). Also, of course, all things Adobe is the enemy here Grin

Best wishes,
Ray
14  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: missing chunks of the image on: March 20, 2013, 09:44:02 PM
Hi G,

I've had similar problems with various odd printers over the years. A recent one, using a Dell laser, was solved by going into the ms print spooler, and altering the memory capacity setting to 1024MB, from 256MB iirc. Before that, prints were OK from all printing software that I had, except qimage, now it works fine with everything. This was a PCL6 print driver, which, afaik, is from hp origins.

Best wishes,

Ray

Just checked - http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.html   no Merrill support in Bridge or lightroom. Does dcraw/quimage  now support the earlier dp1's etc?
