436  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: PRISM TARGET VS. PRINTER TARGET on: November 05, 2009, 11:23:51 PM
If you're still here.... then maybe clean the scanner glass, make sure you have some 'black backing', let scanner warm up (do two or three scans, and use the last one, ensure you select the correct corners accurately. You can zoom in on the results, to check the selected areas (white squares) are not picking up the black borders of the individual squares - make sure target is printed the correct size helps, but not essential, afaik, but make sure all the inbuilt printer profiling stuff is turned off. If you get a high light variance, it may work better if you reverse the positions of the targets, or possibly try a different scanner. Of course, the printer may not be printing properly - blocked jets, whatever. Did it actually attempt to produce a profile?

Best wishes,

Ray

PS - hope you never saved the image as a gif Roll Eyes

pps there are two targets you can print - one bright - try the other target - it depends where the 120 'X's are.
437  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: profiles for fotospeed papers on: November 05, 2009, 11:09:45 PM
Hi Tom,

I mentioned this to John - he who owns Fotospeed - at their show yesterday. He got mixed up with another software brand with 'image' in its name...  One of his guys mentioned the software name in question, but i can not now recall it. If you have a reasonable scanner, although Fotospeed, and other paper suppliers offer profiles, it is far more convenient to use Profile Prism, and if you like fiddling, you can edit the profiles too  Smiley .

Fotospeed are a nice company to deal with, they are about to take on Canon printers, so I'm working on 'em to spend the few pounds on Qimage for their printing.

Best Wishes,

Ray
438  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Color space problems on: November 05, 2009, 10:59:31 PM
Hi James,
In PS, it easy to 'assign' a colour space, when I expect you may really need to 'convert' to the colour space. I'm not sure/not checked, Embarrassed  if you save it as a psd if the file  then contains the assigned colour space, but it does not if saved as jpeg, for example. This tends to commonly give drab/reddish images if you're working in Adobe rgb, say, but display in srgb. It'll probably look OK on your monitor, in ps, but not if others view it on the web.

Best wishes,

Ray

There are 'free' file unlockers, that may solve your problem. I use this one - http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ but I've never had this problem with qimage.
Best wishes,

Ray
