1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: 2017.110 media size not changing on: November 29, 2016, 03:20:20 AM
Got it working.  Turns out I was selecting the wrong printer.
2  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / 2017.110 media size not changing on: November 29, 2016, 02:31:27 AM
Using 2017.110 with an Epson P800 networked under Windows 10.

On the Setting tabs I can set the media size to 11x17, but the W and L shown below always stay at 11.00 x 8.50.

There is nothing in the queue.  When I hover over white space in the Live View tab, the Media Size is 11x17, the Current Size is 4x6, and at the top "Page: 10.766 x 8.266 in. (720 x 720)" is displayed.  I can change the Current Size to other sizes, but none larger than 10.766 x 8.266.

If I go to the print driver by clicking on Properties, the Size is Letter (8x11.5).  If I change this to 11x17 and click OK, and then return to the driver, the Size is back to Letter.

How can I use media larger then letter?

3  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Qimage 155 won't start on: June 28, 2016, 01:44:11 PM
I double checked the file attribute of the flt file and it was Archive (which is normal).

I renamed the file and started Q and got the same error, albeit with another flt file.

I renamed the directory so Q could not access it, and Q started normally.

I set the active directory to one that worked (and contained flt files).  I renamed the problem directory back to it's original name.  Successfully restarted Q (now on the good directory).  From the history list I selected the bad directory and got the file access error on the flt.

Using File Explorer, I went to the bad directory and moved all the flt files to a subdirectory.  Oddly, this required administrative privileges to do.  Suspecting this was the root cause, I checked the permissions for the problem directory.  Even though the good and problem directory had the same permissions, I expanded the permissions in the problem directory and that solved the problem.

The drive containing the files is a backup drive that I move from one machine to another.  I've been swapping drives between machines for years and never run into this problem.  Nevertheless, I suspect this may have something to do with it.

4  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Qimage 155 won't start on: June 28, 2016, 03:28:50 AM
Running Qimage Ultimate 2016.155 under Windows 10.  When I try to start it I get two dialog boxes:

Cannot open file xxxx.flt.  Access denied.  (the file exists and has the proper file attributes)

Exception EFOpenError in module Qimage ....

I can open Q in administrator mode.  I have tried resetting printer and ALL setting to no avail.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck.  When starting the program normally (i.e. not as administrator), I always get the same dialog boxes as described above looking for the same flt file.

Okay, I can understand putting some space between the buttons.  But if that space is always blank, why is the space framed (the medium gray box)?

The fact that we are both puzzled by it demonstrates it is a confusing UI element.

Attached is a screen shot of the dialog.

Here's my workflow -- may explain my illogical workflow  Wink

1. Add an image to the queue.

2. Ctrl E to crop the image.

3. Ctrl F to add a cutout (I use cutouts for copyrights, which I prefer to use rather than Signatures).

I fail to see how I am wasting time here, but if there is a more efficient way to do this, by all means describe it please!

Is that space always blank or is there an icon that shows up under certain conditions?

As it is, it looks odd.

When I upgraded from 110 to 119, the print icons changed, but one looks like it is missing?  Could someone explain?

9  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Filter dialog doesn't display image on: March 18, 2013, 01:50:25 PM
If I add an image to the queue, select the image, Ctrl+E to Edit, then Ctrl+F to add a filter, the filter dialog often (not always) displays a gradient rather than the image.  While in the filter dialog, if I add a cutout, then the image is finally displayed.  All the images I print are 8 bit tiffs.

Using 2013.119.

10  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Enhancement/Filter Application placement on dual monitor system on: March 04, 2013, 06:34:35 PM
Most Q windows place themselves correctly on a dual monitor system, but the first time the Enhancement/Filter Application dialog box pops up, it does so in such a way that half the dialog box is on screen #1 and the other half on screen #2.  Once I reposition the dialog box, it retains that position for the rest of the session.  When I restart Q, that position is lost and it is back to the half and half position.

11  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Monitor profile mismatch error on: February 27, 2013, 12:53:55 AM
Using 2013.110 on a dual monitor Windows 8 system.  QI pops up an alert that that there is a monitor profile mismatch.  Display 1 uses a standard sRGB profile, while display 2 uses a custom profile PA271W.icc.  I have QI set to the custom profile because display 2 is the one I use for color critical work.

Looks like QI is comparing its monitor profile to the Windows profile for display 1.  Maybe it should check all the displays and only issue a warning if none of the match?

Terry,

Again, thanks for the detailed reply.

Yes, the help does talk about transparency and for our purposes here, that is pretty much the same as opacity.  I use the term opacity because that is the term used in Photoshop layers.

For my copyrights I want the underlying layer to show through, so my font "color" is always a gray value (e.g. RGB 128,128,128).

Nevertheless, it seems that there is no way to control within QI the intensity of the transparency/opacity of the cutout other that creating a set of cutouts that were created with different transparency levels.

Again, what I am requesting is the ability of QI to take a cutout like a signature (e.g. black background (0,0,0) and white text (255,255,255)) and to be able to vary the transparency/opacity.  With this feature, I could set the transparency to 50% and each RGB value in the cutout would be multiplied by 0.5 (e.g. background would still be (0,0,0), text color would be (128,128,128)).

Terry,

Yes, I saw that page and I see no mention of opacity.

Maybe I haven't described my question adequately.

I do understand how to adjust the opacity of the cutout as described in the online help.  If I want something to be gray, just create a cutout that sets the RGB values to 128, 128, 128.

Here's my question:  If my cutout contains my copyright (e.g. (c) Deven) and the text color is white (255,255,255), is there a way to tell QI to blend it in such a way that the result is gray?

So the way I understand it now is that to adjust the opacity of the text I have to create a new cutout for each shade I want.  I'm hoping to find an easier path where there is just one white cutout and a slider somewhere in QI where I can adjust the opacity.

Thanks for your patience!

Terry,

Regarding the cloud, in case you are not familiar with Dropbox, it creates a Library on your PC (like My Music) and you save or read files from that folder.  So the file reside on your system and Dropbox automatically copies them into the cloud and syncs them with any other linked PCs.  Thus the file you edit or the photo you save in your Dropbox folder automatically gets copied onto any linked PC.

Regarding Cutout opacity, I must be quite dim as when I search for help in QI I find nothing helpful (there is Example 24 in "Learning by Example," but it doesn't mention opacity).

In the online help I can find http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage-u/help/function.htm#cutouts, but again no mention of opacity.

So, if you would be so kind, could you point me to the help page that explains how to control opacity?

Thanks,

Deven

Terry,

Regarding the High Precision Crop tool, I guess my first reaction is why is there a need for it?  Why doesn't the regular crop tool work well enough?

To state it a bit differently, why not make the regular crop tool so good that there is no need for a High Precision tool?

For instance, why can't the regular crop tool be maximized to fill the screen?  (Well, technically you can maximize it, but why don't the controls gracefully resize to take advantage of the larger screen?)  If it could, would there be a need for High Precision?

Even if you do you High Precision, it is mouse based which sort of works against "high precision."  And even in High Precision the image does not fill up the screen on a large monitor.
