1  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Fixing the margin on a half-fold card on: August 12, 2011, 04:41:34 AM
I've been able to come up with a solution using a combination of calculations and trial-and-error.  The calculations, based on reported printer margins, didn't produce the right results.  I measured the actual margins, then tweaked until the results were right.  I've saved this as a new template so I don't have to figure this out again (as long as I don't change paper or margin size!).

Hi Terry,

Edit the template by "Recalling" the layout.
I'm not sure which version of Qimage you have and I've forgotten  Roll Eyes  some of the detail for the older versions since I went over to QU.
Open the Full Page editor and select the template you want to trim. On the rhs of the editor page you can change the size by entering numbers directly, you need the crop scissors on.
In the Full Page Editor, it says "Templates cannot be cropped".

(I am using Qimage Studio 2010.209)

Alternatively, back on the main screen, select the template that needs trimming and use Custom size to modify the size and reposition if required.

Do you mean I should use Custom > Layout to load then layout, then Custom > Enter Specific Size?

Thanks...

3  Mike's Software / Qimage / Fixing the margin on a half-fold card on: August 11, 2011, 11:20:31 PM
I am printing on Red River half-fold cards.  I have managed to set up a page layout template to make things easy for myself (I don't use Qimage regularly, so when I do use it, it's always helpful to have a streamlined process).

After printing and folding the card, the borders on three sides of the image are about the same size, but the border on the top of the image is slightly too small (this is in the middle of the card, before folding; I actually rotate the image 180 degrees and print it at the top of the card because the printer is happier this way).

An easy fix is to "slice off" a tiny part of the top of the image (say, 0.06").

I'm embarrassed to say that I can't figure out how to do this; I can't figure out how to do it manually nor can I figure out how to "program" this into the template.  Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

The answer (from Mike Chaney):

Sounds like you might have a new driver and it is not compatible with settings from the
previous driver that was used when printer settings were saved by Qimage.  To correct this,
you must recreate the driver settings from scratch.  Click "Help", 'Reset printer settings"
and when you restart Qimage, set the driver settings manually (without recalling a printer
setup or job).  Once you recreate the settings, you can save them for future use.  The
problems occur when you load an old printer setup or job that has settings based on an old
(and now incompatible) driver.

I already ran the nozzle clean and check (that was my first guess too: problem with the magenta ink).  I am using Canon paper and ink.  As I mentioned, some other programs print fine.

The odd thing about idImager is that the results are the same whether or not "ICC/ICM for printing" is enabled.  I am suspicious about whether idImager is properly implementing this.

I guess the next thing to try is to turn off color management with Qimage.

Thanks for your reply.

I am a longtime Qimage user, haven't printed in a couple of months.  Tried to print some portraits today and they all came out too pale, people's faces weren't pink enough and in fact the rest of the images look like they were lacking oomph.  Images were jpgs from different locations and times.  I've never had this problem before.  The only thing that changed on my machine (that I can think of) is that I upgraded both Lightroom (to 2.6) and idImager (to 5).

I tried printing in Lightroom and the results were different but not any better.  However, idImager nailed the color (but I couldn't coax it to print borderless).

I would like to get Qimage back to where it was before and I'm not quite sure what might have changed.  Qimage says Mntr ICC is sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and Prtr ICC is "Let printer/driver manage color".  Printer is Canon i9100.

For idImager, "Use ICC/ICM for printing" is off.  The input and output profiles are sRGB IEC61966-2.1.  Rendering intent is Perceptual (same as for Qimage).

To be honest, I'm pretty green at color management so I'm reporting the settings that I see.  I haven't fiddled around with any color management settings in years.

Insights would be appreciated.  Thanks!

EDIT: I've found that Faststone printing (which doesn't seem to have any visible control over color management) seems to produce good results just like idImager.
