1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Matts and Borders on: Today at 11:29:53 AM
Do you have a video for this? If not I have a simple white border around my photo now how do I make it look like a bevel so it looks like a real matt?

Not being able to see what you want, you mentioned a black line so... why don't you use an outer border of .01 with a black color?  For example, let's say your existing white border is 1/4 inch.  Keep your inner border set to .25 with a color of white and your outer border to .01 with a color of black.  That way you'll get a thin black line around the whole thing.  If you want to get more complicated than that and do something like a frame, you could add a cutout in the image editor.

All of these can be done with either photo mats, borders, or a combination of both.  Do you have an example of what you want to do?  Then I could better guide you to which feature is most appropriate.

Thank you. I didn't change it. How to recover mm or cm?

Click the units (in/mm) button on the top menu.

Looks like you are trying to set a 10 inch border which is not possible.  Choose a smaller border.

Qimage doesn't recognize printers in such a way: that is deferred to Windows.  Like Photoshop, Lightroom, Affinity, and all other Windows software that is not RIP based, it relies on the Windows printer driver.  So if you install a Windows driver for the printer, Qimage will automatically see it (through Windows).  If there is no Windows driver available, you cannot use Qimage to print to that printer.

6  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Qimage Ultimate not sending queued images to Epson R1800 on: May 03, 2024, 11:43:56 AM
There's no difference between how the unclog jobs print and how your normal images print other than the unclog job maybe being a smaller spool size.  That tells me you might be having trouble with the old outdated driver.  Click the AI Copilot button on the top of the main UI, turn off all Driver AI options, and then open the driver settings by holding the Shift key while clicking on the "Properties" button to open the driver.  Make settings in the driver and try a print.  Don't try to open old jobs or saved printer setups as those could have incompatible settings.

You can also try enabling print preview in the driver and see if the Epson preview shows what you expect (but it doesn't print).  If that's the case, the driver is the issue.

I can't really diagnose image-specific issues remotely so if you want to put the image (or a few images) in question on Google Drive or something and give a link, I can take a look and see if I can repeat the problem.

Hi Gary,

9000 x 6000 is relatively small: only about 160 MB.  Double that if it's 16 bits/channel which is still pretty small.  Qimage can handle images 6-12 times that size easily.

So I wonder, what format are these images: TIFF, PSD, etc?

Also, do they have layers?  Sometimes layers can cause issues and flattening images will prevent problems.  I don't think it's the naming convention.  It's probably just the order in which they are accessed along with some incompatibility with layers.

If you go to "Utilities" on the top menu and choose the "Migrate..." option, it'll walk you through changing the location of the application data folder.

Are all your images on the network?  A shared job log doesn't typically work well on two computers because a lot of the time each computer has its own local photos.  If everything is being done on the network I suppose you could set your Qimage application data folder to the same network location on both computers.  Then everything from thumbnails to saved jobs, job logs, printer setups, etc. could be shared.  You'd have to be careful choosing a network location as the application data folder, however, because it can have negative side effects.  For example, network folders are orders of magnitude slower than local drives.  And if it isn't available for any reason, it can cause crashes.

Hi Mike, are u planning to add GPU support for image display? its been quiet on the release front for a while

No.  There would be little to no benefit to using the GPU to just display images.  Been pretty quiet on the camera and printer front too so not a lot of new stuff to support.  I'm working on the next paradigm shift in print quality but some of the work is dependent on third party tools so I'm at the mercy of other companies before I can implement them.  We've reacjed a local maximum with respect to print quality but these new tools will change that and allow us to leap forward.  It's just going to take some time.

I don't know anything about that printer but in searching online, it looks like you have to connect it to your PC via WiFi.  Take a look at this video.  If it works, the printer should show up in Qimage once it is added as a device in Windows:

I have no idea whether it works or not, but worth a try.

I would keep it in portrait and as long as you turn on auto roll length (next to media size) and you have a 24 inch width set, Qimage will manage the length.

15  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Photo mat of exact size without cropping on: March 30, 2024, 06:16:38 PM
Thanks.  The videos are great.  What I think might be the easiest (and no calculations) would be to create a layout or several layouts depending on your needs.  You could add a template (last thumbnail in any folder) and then add a photo mat around that template and save that as a layout.  As an example, you could add a template at size 50 x 30 and then add a photo mat to that template and specify 10 for all 4 sides of the mat.  You'll end up with a 70 x 50 mat with a 50 x 30 template in the middle.  If you never want to crop images and want the aspect ratio to "conform", make sure the auto crop button on the Prints tab is OFF.  Then click the print placement button under the live view and select "Save current as custom layout" and give it a name.  Then when you pick (use) that layout, every time you add an image by clicking the + on a thumbnail or dragging a thumbnail and dropping it onto the empty template, that image will fill the 50 x 30 area of the template.  If the image is a different aspect ratio (like 3:2), it automatically fits and centers it within the template and your mat is still 70 x 50 as that is unaffected.  The 3:2 image would go into the template and be sized 45 x 30 because your template identifies the minimum borders on all sides.  If you want different minimum borders, just adjust the size of the template to get anything you like.

Maybe this will work?  You could define several of these layouts with different template sizes inside your 70 x 50 mat to get different amounts of border(s).  They don't even have to be equal.  Just remember that when you insert an image into the template that is a different aspect ratio (than the size of the template), it will just fit the image into that "window", centering within the template area.
