Oh my goodness, Ray.  Could resolving this be that easy (maybe)?  Have I just put the markers in the wrong places?  I cannot wait to try again tonight.
You have so brightened my day!!

Many thanks,
Betty
17  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / I'm a bit discouraged on: March 18, 2010, 12:31:15 AM
Sorry, this may be a repeat, but it doesn't look like my post went through.
I'm still working with using PP.  My old Canon scans were not making PP happy, very underexposed, some clipping, and many x's on just the IT8 target, never got any further than that.  So today I bought Vue Scan.  I followed the Vue Scan directions in the PP guide, and again got underexposed, with even more x's.  I'm sure these problems are most likely me, but I'm pretty lost now.

Any suggestions would be so very much appreciated.

You surely spoke the truth there!  The suggestion to use the file-Recall- etc was not in any of the info I read/printed.
Gratefully yours!

Fred, you are so good.
You answered me for sure.  I'm sorry to not be better relaying my question(s).  I'm a bit anxious, for sure.
But, my last question was when I shut down QI after printing the initial profile (first one), do I maintain the  FILE -Recall- J etc settings.
I got you now.
I'm printing your helpful answers.
Maybe you should a "help" tut just for QI image folk who want to use the PP software.
Your instructions have sure helped me today.
 Grin
Another thank you!

Deep breath.

Ok, Fred.  Now does that mean when I go back to print the profile, do I do the same thing again in QI about - File 'Recall J' Qprinter target setup?  ..and then print the target made from my scanner and the one I made this morning combined?  I know I need to leave the Icc profile off and the sharpen to 0 on the front right QI settings.

I am printing your replies, and making notes, trying to get lost here.

:-)
Thanks,
Betty

OK!!! We now have a target printed.  Whew!
Just have to wait 8 hours before proceeding, or maybe it'll be tomorrow.  :-)

Next question, Fred.  Do I need to go back into Qimage and change anything?  I'm not talking about the print driver, I know they need to stay where they are for now, but when I went into File, Recall, and clicked the J button for job, and then found the Q Printer target setup.  Before I close QI do I need to go back and reset anything?

I've quit holding my breath, at least, thanks to you, Fred!
Thanks yet again!
Betty
24  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Next question...on PP on: March 14, 2010, 04:52:58 PM
Hello again,
Fred, that worked great regarding your answer to my find "Print" question.
I'm now into printer properties trying to turn off any color management.
My printer is HP Deskjet 9800.
In the printer properties, under the tab "color magement" my choices are:
color smart/sRGB
Adobe RGB
Managed by Application
ICM

Which one do I choose?  I guessing "managed by application", but sure would appreciate some suggestions.
Another big THANKS for any help!
Betty
25  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: Where do I find the "Prints", "Print interpolation" slider? on: March 14, 2010, 04:32:53 PM
Fred,
You are the D__ M-A-N!  Your title of "Hero" member is justly deserved!
Maybe I'll at least get a start on this before dark.  :-)
Many, many thanks!

26  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Where do I find the "Prints", "Print interpolation" slider? on: March 14, 2010, 03:19:40 PM
I purchased PP and am loading it and reading today how to profile my printer.  I'm already lost.  In the step by step info, under #1, the 2nd paragraph states "Extra sharpening is not needed.....As an example of how to disable this feature in Qimage, click "Prints", "Print Interpolation" and move the final print sharnening slider all the way to the left."

On the lower right of the QI interface I see the "sharpen" indicater.  I've taken it off "default" and put it on "0 (off)".  Is this sufficient, or do I need to find "Prints", "Print Interpolation" and move a slider.  Problem is, I have no idea where "Prints", "Print Interpolation" is found.
Many, thanks for any help/direction.

Ya'll are too cute!..and yes, I'm from the south.
It is very, very comforting to know there is "someone" I can ask questions of while I go through this profiling process.

Ray, I ordered PP this morning.  You and Terry may need to get ready for more questions.

Terry, how about some sweet potato pie instead as a thank you?   Can you smell it coming out of the oven?  :-)

Thanks, Guys!

Oh, My!  Ray, this is exactly what I needed to know!!  I was so afraid my scanner had to be up to par (profiled) before I could start working on the printer.  You, my friend, have just made my day!!  Your and Terry's answers have been beyond helpful.  I'm not nearly so "scared" of tackling this now.

You and Terry both get big hugs this morning!! :-))

Huge thanks,
Betty

Hi Terry,
Thanks so much for your reply.  It is a Cannon N656U and does say LIDE in the right lower corner.  I do not have Vuescan, but was asking questions about it since I thought I'd need more than just my old scanner.  Could I profile the scanner with PP only?  I'm sorry for so many dumb questions, but I'm not knowledgeable at all yet on how to do these profiles, but I'm hoping to get a handle on things.  My goal is to profile my printer, but it seems I need to profile the scanner first.  Is that right?

Huge thanks,
Betty

Ok, I'm trying to learn here, and just read this thread.
Question:  will the basic vuescan (which does not support icc profiles) be helpful with my very ancient cannon flatbed scanner?  I'm wanting to purchase PP, but am concerned about my old scanner.  Can the basic vuescan be profied with PP?

Don't laugh, I likely am not making sense.

Thanks!
Betty
