31  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Terry's Distracting Flashing on: April 02, 2012, 03:11:00 PM
Since Terry seems to like his flashing image, has anyone found a way to disable it in their browser?

I use Chrome and have installed a couple of different utilities that claim to stop animated gifs, but Terry flashes on unabated.

Thanks Fred. I didn't see your first post, so no chance of leading me astray.

I have a vague recollection of seeing Center on physical page mentioned in the past. But it didn't apply to me at the time and I promptly forgot about it.

After setting that option everything works as expected.

33  Mike's Software / Qimage / Centering on Epson 7900 sheet prints on: December 19, 2011, 03:33:55 PM
I normally use only roll paper with my Epson 7900, and sheets in my R2400. But this weekend I wanted to print calendar pages to 8.5x11 sheets with my 7900 to take advantage of the much less expensive ink.

So I added images to the queue with centered layout and it looked centered in the preview window and in the full page editor. However, the images were not centered on the paper in the 11" axis. (landscape paper orientation)

Skipping ahead, what I found was that the left margin showed 0.39" in the full page editor, with 0.83" for the right margin. Clicking the center button in the full page editor changed the margins to 0.61" for both left and right. That moves the preview image to the right making it look uncentered. But the resulting print is indeed centered.

This is with Epson 7900, QImage Studio, 8.5x11 paper, and Windows 7. Page size for the paper is reported as 10.333x8.266, and the image size in the queue is 9.80" wide.

Any idea what is going on? Why do I have to manually center each print using the full page editor's center button? Why does the print preview not show what is printed?

So,if I might ask ..would you suggest another monitor,if so,which one?
Nec,Apple,,What do you use??
Remember,I'm an amatueur photographer, and do not sell any prints.although ,they are all for sale, I'd like to keep the price off a new monitor, under $1000.00 if possible.

I've been looking at a replacement monitor too. While I haven't bought it yet, my choice is the ASUS ProArt Series PA246Q. It is an IPS monitor that covers 98% of Adobe RGB color space. And at $500, it is well under your $1000 price limit.

Since you like the R800, perhaps you can keep it going.

Join the Yahoo Epson Printers group at: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/EPSON_Printers/

and post a description of your R800 problems. It is quite likely that they can help keep it working.

Can you point Ed to your earlier posts on the subject or repeat what you did in detail for him?  Wink
Terry

In my case, I had a few jobs that were 13x19 prints containing a lot of small images in a random layout. So it was more time effective to port the job files and edit them than to try to recreate the original layout.

In the Name.job file the file name with path is in plain text.

Name.jp1 has the printer .icm file used.

Name.jpt is apparently the printer setup and is in binary format. On my new computer the printer got installed with a different name. Rather than change the name in the .jpt file, I reinstalled the printer with the exact name as found in the .jpt file.

Name.jss has both the image name(s) and .icm name. I don't know if it was necessary, but I changed both here as well as the Name.job and Name.jp1 files.

Name.jst seems to not require any changes.

If I had more than just a few jobs to port, I would have written a program to do it for me. But in this case it was quicker to do it by hand.

While it isn't especially easy, it can be done.

I copied the files as described by Terry and then after figuring out which files were necessary, I edited them to change paths to match the new computer. They are text files.

In my case, my old machine had photos on drive E:, while the new one used the same directory structure, but on drive D:.

Here are the specs of the laptop: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHZ 982MB of Ram(can upgrade to 4G). Looks like it is an 80G harddrive with 57.8 free. It is an Lenova ThinkPad  T61 running Vista Business. The print I was trying to do that said it was printing but was not was 24x28 to be printed on Innova Cold Press at 240. I was able to send an 8x10 and everything printed fine. The one I saw "graininess" on actually got sized down to 4x6 because I didn't notice original size wasn't checked. Don't you think if I max out the ram at 4G this machine should run QI just fine. Comparison's were both made with the profile in tack. Color was fine. I think I can figure it out it's just throwing me when I see a different res number than what I am sending to the printer but from everything I have read I shouldn't worry about it because QI is handling it all in the background. I really just need to always get the best print possible for professional use. Please let me know if you think this machine will work as a print server before I go any further with it and upgrade the memory. I could also always put a bigger hard drive in it if I needed to.

I have a T61p which is like your T61 but with a higher resolution display. It works well with QImage and printing to an Epson R2400.

If you have enough paging (virtual) memory, QImage should work for you. It would go much faster with more ram and that would be a cost effective upgrade. No need for a larger hard drive since you are doing your edit work on another computer.

Mike has a couple of articles that quite likely will help your large printing problem. They are February 2006 and April 2006 at:

39  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: jpeg error #54 on: May 10, 2010, 02:22:01 PM
Fred,

Yes, the error occurs as I scroll through the thumbnails in one directory. It doesn't happen every time. There are no jpeg files, just tif files.

Selecting all, and then doing Preview/Add, I can step through all files with no problem.

So it is apparently a problem with thumbnail generation. I have the Studio Edition and a Core i7 that supports 8 threads at once and was using quad core thumbnail generation. So, thinking that perhaps it is some kind of timing issue while building thumbnails, I set it to use just one processor. But the error still occurs.

I never upgrade before starting work with QImage, or any other software. So that's why I was using 205. Now that I'm done with my project, I upgraded to 207 and the error still occurs.

You can't do it in the Full Page Editor but you can in the menu Page Formatting\Page Margins.

Thanks. One more QImage feature that I hadn't encountered yet. I'll give it a try when I do another run of the note cards.

41  Mike's Software / Qimage / jpeg error #54 on: May 09, 2010, 07:07:17 PM
This seems to be my day for QImage problems.

Scrolling through a directory that contains only tif files (mostly 48 bit and some 24 bit), QImage periodically comes up with an error: jpeg error #54.

The first time that happened, QImage closed. More recently, it carries on after I click the OK button.

This is version 2010.205 SE.

42  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Photo note card margins on: May 09, 2010, 06:44:05 PM
Thanks Fred,

In the full page editor, I had 0.12" for both left and right margins. QImage wouldn't let me increase the left and decrease the right, probably because the 0.12" is a minimum allowed. No luck with manual placement either.

Then I more carefully measured the paper's width and found it to be slightly wider than 5.25".

That inspired the fix I came up with: lie in the printer setup and claim the paper is 5.30" wide. QImage then put in larger left and right margins. The larger left margin is what I needed. The larger right margin is harmless.

Apparently the printer's left/right registration isn't quite accurate for this note card stock.

43  Mike's Software / Qimage / Photo note card margins on: May 09, 2010, 04:16:38 PM
I've started printing note cards on Museo 5.25" by 10.50" note card stock. This then folds to give a 5.25" square note card printed front and back.

I defined a custom paper size of 5.25" by 10.50" for my R2400 printer, and set up QImage to print 1 column and 2 rows. Layout is centered.

The resulting image on the front isn't quite centered. Top margin is 0.84" and the bottom is 1.0". The left margin is 0.10" and the right margin is 0.16". The latter is more obvious and annoying.

What is the best way to deal with this?

Ever hear about a program called Calibrex?  It does monitor profiles.

Another option that is a little more complete than Calibrize is Monitor Calibration Wizard.

I use a DataColor Spyder so I haven't done much with these software only utilities. But I suspect that either Calibrize or Monitor Calibration Wizard would be better than nothing.

45  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: 64 bit use on: October 24, 2009, 03:56:14 PM
If I go to Windows 7 64 bit and a larger amount of memory, Can Qimage take advantage of that? Not being a native 64 bit application I would think there are limits.

Thank you,
Tom

As others have said, QImage isn't a 64 bit application so it can't use the much larger 64 bit address space.

However, there is some benefit to QImage on a 64 bit system.

A 32 bit system loses memory addressing to things such as some hardware devices. A 64 bit system doesn't have that problem.

In QImage under Help, hold down the shift key and click Analyze Current Settings. It will show the available memory as 2000MB  when running a 64 bit system, but something less than that with a 32 bit system.

My 32 bit XP gives 1072MB. My laptop running 64 bit Vista gives 2000MB, nearly twice the available memory I get with XP.
