46  Mike's Software / Qimage / two portrait, one landscape? on: July 29, 2010, 03:26:44 PM
qimage Studio 2010.205  -

I remember that in previous versions of Q, I could print three 4x6 images on one sheet of 8.5x11 inch paper. Two images would be oriented in portrait, and the third, still on the same sheet, would be oriented in landscape. I'm sure that's still possible,  but I can't find that option. Everything I try leads me to two sheets of paper. Trying manual placement, I find that I can only print one image on each sheet of paper. That's new too, and is not necessarily helpful.

Can someone steer me to the solution to this?

Thanks - Bill

Thanks Fred. Once again, you've saved the day.  I knew it had to be easy.

I'm pleased with my little Epson 810. It's not the 1800, but the image quality is very acceptable, much better than I'd expected, now that I've made a custom printer profile for it.

OS=Win 7 54 bits.  Printer=Epson Artisan 810

Using this printer (which is new to me) I've had no trouble printing on 8X10 paper, but I'm unable to print on 4X6 paper and I haven't found the solution in the tutorial or in the manual (I know the answer must be in there somewhere, I just can't find it after quite a bit of searching.)

I'm just trying to print a few - five to be exact - simple test images, no borders, no cropping, nothing at all fancy.

In the printer driver, as I view the driver in Qimage, Paper size is set to 4X6 inches.
In the Page bar above the preview panel in Qimage, the page size appears as 3.766X5.766 inches.
Print size in Qimage set to 4X6.
In the "View Print Queue" bar I get the notation "5 images, 10 pages".
In the preview panel each image is oriented "landscape", while the paper image is oriented "portrait". That is, the preview of the image is "crosswise" to the image of the printer paper. Of course when I click on the Print Properties bar I get the messages that the "image is larger than one page" and the choice either to print the image across two pages, or to have Qimage reduce image size so it will fit (crosswise) on a single sheet of 4X6 paper.

If I try to rotate the image from beneath the preview screen, nothing happens. If I rotate the image 90 degrees in the image editor, it rotates 90 degrees in the editor but it is oriented 180 degrees (still "crosswise") in the preview panel.

There are further problems but apparently I've exhausted the capacity of this message box and can't type any further. Sorry if this part is more confused than the rest.I know there has to be a simple fix for this. I apologize for asking the group, and thank you all in advance for your help.

49  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: force to 4X6 on: April 10, 2010, 08:44:49 PM
Thanks - I think that will get me started, and possibly get me all the way there. If I'm not making headway, I'll holler again. FYI -for this purpose I will sometimes be printing on 8.5X11, sometimes on 13X19.

It's a little more complicated than that. I'm used to printing multiple images on a single sheet of paper - as, for example, multiple 4X6 inch prints on a single sheet of 13X19. However, if I want to crop an image, or if I use a camera which makes a 4.5X6 image (instead of 4X6) by default, I have to eyeball the borders as I trim out the image from the larger sheet.

What I'd like to do is to have a 4X6 blank template in Qimage with a thin black border around the outside it, then resize my 4.5X6 (or cropped) images so they'll fit into my template at the largest size the template will allow. In this example, I'd resize my 4.5X6s to 4X5.34 inches and place those resized images inside my template so that white "letterbox" areas remain where the image doesn't fill the template. Then (ideally)  I'd like to automate that process for one or two dozen images at a time.

I've been playing with this, this afternoon, and I'm stuck. I'm even stuck making a border around a 4.5X6 inch image, which I used to know how to do (the borders I "create" don't show up). Any advice on any part of this project would be very helpful.

51  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: "no color management" in Qimage on: April 06, 2010, 10:06:41 PM
Fred and Terry - Many, many thanks for this. It was, as Fred wrote, easy as pie. BTW - I have to ask - is the the same Fred A (if so, I remember your last name very clearly) who's been a mainstay of Qimage ever since the first version? That takes me back some years, but your name is a very welcome sight.

After a switch to Windows 7, which occurred at the same time I received a new version of Spyder3Print (I'm a beta tester) and at the same time I had to send my beloved Epson R1800 in for repair, I've been unable to print photos at home. I think all the problems are now solved, and I'm eager to get back to making my own prints. Smugmug has done a capable job, but I flatter myself to claim that my own prints are better.    Wink

52  Mike's Software / Qimage / "no color management" in Qimage on: April 06, 2010, 07:10:02 PM
Coming back to Qimage after a few months away. I've just ordered the current version of Qimage Studio (having used the trial version for a few weeks). Now I need to print a target from which a printer profile will be made, so I need to assure that there is "no color management" from within Qimage. I've printed the target from Photo Shop CS4 and I know how to turn off color management there. I also know how to turn it off in the Epson R1800 printer driver. Can someone point me to the instructions on how to assure that Qimage does no color management while I print the target?

Thanks - Bill Hansen
53  Mike's Software / Qimage / Win 7, Spyder3Print, and printing on: March 02, 2010, 01:26:37 AM
Are any of you using the combination I've listed in the Subject line above? If so, I hope you can help me.

As some of you know, I've had to be away from photo printing for several months. I'm coming back now with a new computer which uses the Windows 7 OS. My monitor is profiled with the DataColor Spyder3Elite program - no problem there. But I can't get a printer profile which works.

I've been printing digital photos since the year 2000, so I'm not really new to this. I've been using the SpyderPrint system for at least a couple of years, and I was a beta tester during the development of its current form, so I'm certainly not new to SpyderPrint either. I was able to print without any difficulty when I had Windows XP Pro as the OS - but not now, not with Win 7 and the new computer.

Prints are so dark they're unuseable and no amount of correction will bring them even close to monitor appearance. It looks to me like a case of "double profiling" but I can't discover how that is taking place. I've been over and over every single step of the profiling process with the DataColor tech rep, without any success at all.

So - does anyone here have an idea of what might be going wrong? Mr Miller and I are both so frustrated that we're about to give up completely. I know I can get my images printed online, but I have so much money and time invested in software and hardware that I hate to waste it all.

54  Mike's Software / Qimage / new registration code? on: February 18, 2010, 02:13:26 AM
I've been away from photo printing for many months, due to the lack of a computer. Now I'm back, with a new computer running Windows 7 64 bits. I find that my copy of Qimage won't work, because the unlock key is outdated.

The version of Qimage I was using is 2006.277   My user name was "bill hansen" without the quotes. I can supply the previous unlock code privately to Mike, if that will help.

I wrote to ddisoftware requesting a new reg number, but  my note probably got lost in the internet somewhere.

Two questions (1) what's the best way to contact ddisoftware about a current registration number? - and
(2) does Qimage version 2006.277 work with Windows 7 64 bits?

Thanks - Bill Hansen
